The club appear to have denied the police version of events, saying that the council's Safety Advisory Group made the decision.

Yes indeed, so i assume with there being conflicting reports, that's why the EFL are looking into the postponement .
I can confirm that we had a lot of heavy snow and icy roads and pavements in Derbyshire .
I have never been to Pride Park, but used go regularly to the old Baseball ground many years when i was still at school .

Since you’re our man on the spot Dave A, can I ask your opinion - were there big enough problems with the roads in the area to justify the postponement?
After all Cardiff City say their team bus made it to Pride Park without any difficulty.
Rovers had the same with Gillingham they cancelled at the last minute because of snow because one of there stands has no roof

Yes without a roof the away end was said to be covered in snow and ice. Gillingham released this picture and said: "Staff and volunteers worked tirelessly on Saturday morning to clear the affected areas, but to no avail."

I live quite a few miles from the football ground, so have no idea what the roads were like in the immediate vicinity .
It was snowing for most of the day on Saturday were i live, it became particularly bad Saturday evening and night, the wind got up and the snow started drifting, the temperature also fell below freezing, the roads at this time were horrendous .
Sunday morning was a different story, the snow had stopped, and a slow thaw had set in, the major roads near to were i live were clear, but the smaller village type local roads and side roads were still treacherous, as were the pavements .
I should think the conditions surrounding Pride Park would have been pretty much the same as were i live, so i would assume that before kick off there would still be ice and snow on the pavements, car parks side roads etc, but the major roads would be clear.
So if the conditions were the same i could see why the game was called off .
Two questions remain for
Were Cardiff given sufficient information to pass on to fans
should the decision to postpone have been made a lot sooner than they did?
Reading have sacked manager Jaap Stam.

They were told the game was off. What other information would they need?

If you believe Derby County’s version of events it simply wasn’t possible to make the decision any sooner.
Derby say there was nothing to put the match in doubt the day before and the problem was heavy overnight show. If they followed the correct procedures, which they insist they did, then getting the Safety Advisory Group’s decision to postpone made by 8:30 that morning was very quick work.
