Not only that, they had some great player like Sir Stanley Matthews & Stan Mortensen (who was proud to play for them.) They were FA Cup winners in 1953 in what was known as 'The Matthews Final' If the owners aren't that concerned about the club's history then they should take a look at that final and realise how prestigious Blackpool IS to football. to see a club with that history go out of business would be one of the biggest blows to football, and maybe one that football can never recover from.
get the feelings the club isnt to important to the Kids anymore dont forget it was the father owen who bought it. its like with any famlily business the kids take it over having usally not had to work for anything and make a total pigs ear off it. thats partly what happened with rovers Jacks kids didnt really want to know and got shut off it mind you theres a rumour they got rid of it because the club was beneficary for any sale of jack walkers airline Walker Air which then became FlyBe
was amazing sold Rovers to the Venkys for 25 million then weeks later sold there 21% stake in Flybe for 45 Million
I hope that there is a decent British bloke out there with plenty of cash who lives in Blackpool who would buy the club, and be seriously committed to it because if there is one thing the club needs right now is a little bit of TLC.
i can see the same thing happening when dave whelan is off the scene at wigan
just hope there are enough Blackpool fans on this forum who'll fight to save the club
Just been released the FifA world rankings and England have dropped to 20th in the world and I would say it's about right. Had we got into the 2nd round or the quarter finals, we probably would have only be sitting just outside the top 10. New World Champions Germany are top and probably will be for quite some time to come. Former champions Spain are down to 8th.
But still shocked at how many places we have fallen.
The ranking points for matches at a World Cup Finals are worth a lot more, so it will skew the results for a while.
Blackpool manager, Jose Riga could be sacked before a ball has even been kicked.
The Belgian’s position as Blackpool manager is hanging by a thread as the club’s transfer stalemate continues. Riga and chairman Karl Oyston have been locked in a bizarre stand-off over transfer policy. With the new season just three weeks away Blackpoolool still have only eight squad players registered.
Reports that Riga had quit the club last night are incorrect but his position is far from safe, with Oyston fast running out of patience. Riga is insisting that Oyston signs his top four targets, players he feels will make up the spine of his team, before building the rest of his squad. With Blackpool struggling to complete these deals, all of them overseas players, Oyston is apparently becoming increasingly worried about the lack of numbers and wants to sign up some available players quickly, including former Seasiders midfielder Angel Martinez.
As the impasse continues, it’s understood Riga is highly unlikely to take charge of the team for Saturday’s friendly at Penrith. Youth boss Richie Kyle is expected to stand in for the game in Cumbria, even if Riga is still Pool manager at the weekend.
If Riga is sacked before the season begins he would break Michael Appleton’s 65-day record for the shortest managerial reign in Blackpool’s history. He has been manager for just 37 days, with his only signing being Estonian striker Sergei Zenjov.
Next week’s pre-season training camp in Spain has been cancelled due to the lack of players, while Riga’s backroom staff are yet to sign contracts as they await the outcome of the stand-off.
It has to be said that Karl Oyston has been at loggerheads with many of the fans for years, as was his father before him but thats nothing new for chairmen at most clubs
