A good 4-1 victory at home against Prem new boys Norwich was slightly marred by a 1st half injury to goalie Allison with new boy Adrian making his Liverpool debut just days after signing him.Norwich were one of the most entertaining teams to watch outside the Premiership last season having that 'never say die' mentality overturning 2,3 even 4 goal deficits & even though they went 4-0 down within the 30 mins of the 1st half Norwich still pushed forward exploiting Liverpool's jittery & wide open defence at times eventually scoring with their top scorer last season Pukki scoring his first Prem goal in the 2nd half.Great young player Trent-Arnold is his tracking back & defensive qualities need improving as Norwich exploited those gaping holes at the back & a more cut-throat team than Norwich could have capitalized against us.As soon as the fourth went in I feared a bit for Norwich that the score could get embarrassing but a combination of sloppy finishing & Norwich's keeper Tim Krul making some great saves ensured we couldn't add to our tally.Next up Newcastle next week.
I'd take anything Shearer says with a pinch of salt. I think we should be able to run Man City hard again, but there are other teams to challenge us and them so nothing can be taken for granted. We really need City to make a slip up-perhaps this will be the year they do...or not! Anyway anything has to be better than having to listen to Noel Gallagher banging on at how great his team is - and no doubt they will think they can win EVERYTHING this year...well you didn't win the Champions League nor are you in line for possibly two more trophies(UEFA Super Cup and later this year, the Club World Cup) It COULD happen you know, nothing is impossible especially if we stick to our mantra of NEVER GIVE UP!
Reports are saying Allison may be out for around 8 weeks with a suspected calf injury possibly a partial tear.Saying that I think what is key for Liverpool's season is a relatively injury-free season particularly to our key players like Van Dijk,Firminho, Mane,Salah etc.I also hope that teams actually go out & take the fight to City particularly when City are playing away from home.It was the case last season where too many teams playing at home against City looked like they were content in trying to contain City & just sat back in a damage limitation exercise.Of all the teams City played in the latter part of last season only Spurs in the CL took the fight to them in both legs.
Listening to a few commentators over the past few days commenting on who might be the 'dark horse' or 'surprise package' that could break into the top 6 some mentioned West Ham (no chance based on the City game earlier today). My pick would have to be Leicester.
Drat! One nil down to Chelsea. We will need to up our game in the second half and maybe make a change. Adrian could never have dreamt that he would be starting a Super Cup let alone a Premier League game. Allison out for a long time but let's hope he comes back better than ever soon.
Smeg! Extra time again, Liverpool really do make us fans sweat too many times. I have an ominous feeling the dreaded penalties might rear their ugly head again. I hope I'm wrong.
