Just because he plays for Stoke it doesn't make him any less of a player. Mitchell Smile

Just to ask, would you say he fits into Rodgers style of play. He's a decent defender, but it seems to me Rodgers wants players who are capable of passing the ball although that shouldn't be his primary concern if he's looking to sign a defender.

What is Liverpool's budget anyway? Is there any definite number/estimate and I think I heard someone mention there is a certain age for players to be signed, so that may be taken into consideration?

They definitely need to sign someone with a bit of strength as too many times for Liverpool, teams with strong strikers like Lukaku or Benteke have given their defenders a bit of a tough time. It could happen again in a few weeks time if Newcastle decide to play Ameobi up frontBig Laugh
You won't see Ryan Shawcross in a Liverpool jersey mate.

According to the Echo rumours were after Coentrao, Williams, Aubameyang from Saint Ettiene, Alonso and Kevin Gameiro.
Definitely wouldn't want to see Coentrao, he's shit at defending.

Probably not, but he may be worth a punt considering the amount of experience he has playing in the league, but again the passing issue may just stop that from happening.

Williams won't happen either for Liverpool because I think it was mentioned if his autobiography that he doesn't particularly like Suarez and it may be bad for squad harmony if there is a player that doesn't like another.

It will most likely then be a player outside of the Premier League that will be bought. Perhaps Liverpool will do what Man City did last summer and get a player in the calibre of Nastasic.
I don't get all this "defender that can pass", every defender can pass from A to B. Hell, maybe I should try out for Liverpool, i can pass and header

Contrao would be a great signing for us, one of the top left backs in the world, on his day he's unplayable, Great pace, ability and can pick out a pass, he seems to be favoured in place of Marcelo at the minute for Real so if the rumours are true he wouldn't come cheap but would certainly add extra quality to our team. I remember first noticing him at the world cup a few years back where he was one of the best players of the tournament and we were being linked with him then while he was at benfica, he seems to have come on a lot since then too Smile

I think if we went ahead with another big name signing like this it would really show our intent and silence many doubters about FSG and their ambitions too.

If we did the double swoop on madrid and came away with Xabi and Contrao it'd be great.

Think so mate.

I'll throw a little curve ball at you...

Was told the other day Rodgers likes the lad Wanyama at Celtic, he's had him watched 3 or 4 times. The kid's a central midfielder but we're looking at him as a centre back. Not seen much of him but sounds a good player.
Izaguirre would be a shout from celtic too for LB cover, to be honest not seen much of wanyama myself but he did look so strong and powerful in the CL against Barca, I just think it would be a little risky playing him at CB without enough development, On the other hand he could be great cover for Lucas Leiva and give us that bit of sheer strength we sometimes lack in the midfield.

Wanyama is an interesting and I doubt Liverpool will be the only ones interested in him either. I think the way Celtic run their club these days then you can expect they will slap a £15 million price tag on him, which is fair enough considering his potential and in today's market its not too expensive.

I have only really seen him in the Champions League and Celtic's home game against Barcelona was where he really shone on the pitch and was man of the match that night for me. It says a lot about him when on the night he out performed Barcelona's midfield players like Iniesta. Also if Liverpool did manage to get him then he could also be used as a replacement for Lucas if he is absent for games, I've always felt Liverpool needed another player to cover Lucas if necessary.
