Pain & Glory(2019)

An ageing Spanish filmmaker called Salvador Mallo attends a 30th anniversary screening of his most successful film “Sabor". Whilst there he comes into contact with the now drug addicted lead actor who he fell out with during the shoot, from there Mallo is inspired to look into his past in order to change his current path and reconcile the relationships he has sabotaged.Poignant and moving stuff from Pedro Almodóvar with a truly amazing turn by Antonio Banderas.

8.5/10
Rambo: Last Blood - 7/10 ultra violent but entertaining last chapter of the Rambo saga, the plot is vey generic and could do with padding out a bit, still pretty good though and Sly looks awesome for his age.
Rambo Last Blood

Watched this movie last week and really enjoyed it. The basic plot is his niece goes to Mexico to find her and gets kidnapped it’s then up Rambo to do what he does best.
Now I feel the critics were very harsh on the movie now is it gonna have the plot and originality of Rambo First Blood which not only is the best in the series after that the films were more action which I still really enjoyed. Now is the film violent and gorier yes but the critics made out like the whole film is like which it isn’t you see bits here and there but it’s the last 25 mins we’re it kicks off the violence and gory.
The critics forget that Rambo is a trained killing machine plus why does what does works in context of the which I don’t wanna spoil as to why his so brutal in the movie. Then there the reports of racism which as a person of colour I didn’t see any of that there bad Mexican’s but also good Mexicans. The film does have a lot heart felt moments which again the critics failed to mention.
The few negatives I had is something happens which kinda makes certain pointless again no spoilers but I understand why they did it. All tho the villains serve purpose like some of characters in movie they need more development to flesh out of characters. Also on the U.K. and American versions it’s 10 mins shorter then then the Australian version hopefully it’s put back in the Blu Ray version. If your expecting to be like First Blood you be a little disappointed but you wanna entertained you can enjoy it for what it is. Also is very gorier so don’t eat before or during the movie. Lancelot score for the movie is about right for the movie.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014).
Taxi Driver

Had this film for years both as Blu Ray & Blu Ray Steel Book because of the influence of this movie on Joker and The King of Comedy which I didn’t get time to see.
Robert De Niro as Travis Bickle was fantastic a character who is war vet turned Taxi Driver a character that is socially dysfunctional and slow descent into rage because of how society is and how he perceives it. Cybill Shepard was not only great but so gorgeous, Bickle becomes obsessed with her character Betsy, Jodie Foster as young under age prostitute again brilliantly acted by her in what is a difficult role. a young Harvey Keitel as her pimp again he was great in the role seeing him so young and with muscles was a shock.
For me Director Martin Scorsese directed a master piece with a dark gritty sleaze of the 1970’s, the sound track to the movie by the late Bernard Herrmann was beautiful with the haunting saxophone plaguing through out the movie, the ending I loved but it’s the way it ends that catches you off guard. Definitely up there in one of my fav films of all times.

My Unboxing

Mercury Rising for the umpteenth time.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (Film 4).

Cara Delevigne is very easy on the eye.

And that's about the best thing I can say.
Overall, I found the film fairly dull and underwhelming.
^ It had so much potential, but was far too busy and convoluted, plus I didn't buy the lead actor as a hero...just no.

It was no Fifth Element.
Oldboy (2003)

The original Korean one. Bought it being on a "revenge" kick since the John Wick movies, and this delivers on violence, but I'm glad I managed to stay in the dark on the overall plot, ESPECIALLY the end.

If you are interested, go see it, I think a new edition just came out on Bluray, so a good time to do so.
Joker (Non-Spoiler)

Saw this film last week and wow what a powerful film. Directed by Todd Phillips and coming from directing the hangover movies I wasn’t sure what to expect and I was proven wrong.
Joaquin Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck a loner living and looking after his mother who works as a clown with dreams of a better life as a comedian but everything and everyone seems to going against him. Joaquin Phoenix performance was fantastic not just in the way he looked but even the way he moved and spoke and really do feel for the character but you always feel there’s something not quite right about Arthur for me Joaquin definitely deserves a Oscar or even a nomination for his performance it was simply breath taking with character at the start of the film and the end of the his transformation of his character was simply amazing. The other cast members Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy and Brett Cullen were fantastic in there roles and all had a very important part to play in the movie.
The film was brilliantly shoot the cinematography of the movie was beautiful right down to the colour grading, Gotham really looked gritty and really felt like it was filmed in the 1980’s. The film score by Hildur Guõnadóttir was beautiful it’s the first time for me I’ve heard her work will definitely be on look out for more of it. You can clearly see the movie is influenced by Taxi Driver, The Dark Knight, The King of Comedy and graphic novels such as The Killing Joke, now bare in mind this isn’t supposed to be the definitive origin story of the Joker it’s more of a what if hence why it’s not in the DCU universe it’s more of a Elseworlds story.
There a lot of twists and turns in the movie and even twists upon twists and lets just say there’s more then one origin story arc. As for the violence yeah in parts it’s gorier and violent in places but it’s no where as bad in my opinion as what the media were saying there’s been far worse films over years and I feel we’re living in PC state and if anything it’s made more people wanna see it. All this stuff about people copying Joker or rooting for him if anything it makes you realise we shouldn’t treat people like shit an treat people like human beings. The film is actually funny in places when you see the certain scenes you’ll see what I mean. Overall I loved the movie if it does oscars it’s highly deserved, so far my fav film of the year and really taken aback by Joaquin Phoenix performance and something I’ll never forget.
