Live And Let Die, Sir Roger Moore's first debut as James Bond not my fav Bond film but still highly enjoyable. This was the only Roger Moore Bond film was more serious after that the producers decided to light up Bond and gave Moore's version of Bond more humour and the actor that played the witch doctor with the snakes was actually afraid of snakes but one thing the film has a kick sound track performed by Wings, one other bit of bond facts is its the first and only time you see Bond's flat, also Solitaire's/Jane Seymour voice was partly re-voiced over in the film by Nikki Van der Zyl. It does look stunning on blu ray tho
7.5/10.
The Dark Knight, a masterpiece Christian Bale was awesome and Heath Ledger performance as the Joker was out this world. The film looks stunning on blu ray too 10/10.
Pale Rider, another classic Clint Eastwood film 9.2/10.
Saving Mr Banks 7/10
..yeah, yeah.. a chick's film.
Story of Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers's struggle with the film studio over the adaptation of her books into the Disney film in the 1960s.
Everything you'd expect - schmaltzy, emotionally manipulative....(Everything that the author character in the film is shown to be battling against)......and highly effective, had me bawling by the end.
The way it cuts between the "present" and the author's flashbacks to her Australian childhood with an alcoholic father - the source of inspiration and motivation for her being so bloodyminded in defending the integrity of her creation against the Disney Studio - bludgeons you into submission.
Some good comedy with the whole "fish out of water" schitck of the uptight reserved "posh" lady looking down her nose at the vulgar ways of the Americans.
And a good cast - Emma Thompson, Tom Hanks as Disney, Bradley Whitford , Paul Giamatti, with Colin Farrell as the dad in the flashbacks etc.
Reminded me how good some of the songs in the "Mary Poppins" film are - the downbeat arrangement of "Chim Chimney" and the melancholy "Feed the birds" being the highlight for me, because I'm contrary old git
.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier 10/10 Brilliant movie with so much going on I am going to have to go through the chore of watching it again soon
Surprised how dark this was and reminded me a bit of The Dark Knight in its approach. Lots of tie ins to Agents of Shield and Avengers 2. For the record there are two extra clips once the credits start rolling.
I want a set of Falcon wings and my own Agent Romanov to play with
I just watched Amazing Spiderman 2 via a download through my tablet, beamed to my tv. Have to say very good hd quality. Unfortunately the film at best is a 7/10. Weak plot early on but the end sort of makes up for it and it does link into the proposed Sinister 6 movie. The trouble is it wants to be a funny, lighthearted film but comes across as silly at times. What it showed to me is that if you want a Marvel movie let Marvel make it. They have transformed the genre on the big screen. Not a bad film just not as good as it could have been.
^^^ Disney really should splash the cash and get the rights for Spiderman, X men and Fantastic Four back to Marvel Studios... I want to see the Onslaught saga on the big screen as it should be, the whole Marvel universe against Proff X and Magneto's manifested evil sides.
Anyway, just watched The winter soldier again 9/10 Second best Marvel film after Guardians of the Galaxy.
