Inspector Gadget (1999)

I had forgotten how funny this film is.

Well, it was going to be "Dial M for Murder" which was supposed to start on BBC2 ten minutes ago - but that seems to have been cancelled because of some tennis or something which doesn't start for another 4 hours ? Rolleyes

Yes I could go and hunt the DVD out from the cupboard , but where's the fun in that ? laugh

What am I supposed to do the week's ironing in front of now ? eek

The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959)

Hammer horror version with Peter Cushing as Sherlock Holmes and Christopher Lee surprisingly not playing the villain.
Quite a good version, although like many versions it departs a bit from the actual story in the book in terms of the roles of some of the characters.
The hound is a bit disappointing, even given the limited special effects possibilities of the period - no real attempt seems to have been made to make it look particularly ghostly or spectral as suggested in the book.

A Taste of Honey(1961)

A controversial(for the time)drama from Tony Richardson about a teenage girl who discovers that she is pregnant,whilst also dealing with her alcoholic mother. With superb performances from Rita Tuahingham and Dora Bryan.

Gorgo(1961)

Another giant monster film from Eugene Lourie.This time its the turn of the British to capture a giant aquatic dinosaur and put it in captivity.To their horror,they realise that creature is just an infant when its mother comes looking for it and destroys many London landmarks in the process.The destruction echoes what happened during the blitz in world war two.

Boyz n The Hood (1991) The directorial debut of John Singleton chronicling a young man(played by Cuba Gooding Jr) and his friends growing up in contemporary Los Angeles. Skilfully covering all bases, such as tragedy, humour and violence with an intelligent script and a feeling of reality and good acting from Ice Cube, Morris Chestnut, Angela Bassett, Nia Long and Gooding himself, although for me the stellar performance was from Laurence Fishbourne(nicely understated), playing Gooding's father trying to keep his son out of trouble. 7.5/10

Escape Route(1953)

A classic crime drama directed by Seymour Fredman and Peter Graham Scott.An FBI man and a British secret agent join forces in order to find the culprits responsible for the kidnapping of a group of nuclear scientists.Sadly,this was the last film Sally Gray ever made.

Arrival, it's a mystery Sci Fi film with a twist. It stars Amy Adams probably one of her best performances to date, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker. It's a bit slow to start off with but as the film unravels everything starts to make sense it is beautifully shot and well acted. It may not be everyone's cup of tea but worth checking out. 8.9/10.
