Independence Day: Resurgence, Oh dear the only two things good about the film is Jeff Goldblum and CGI action set pieces. The thing about the first film is that it was never gonna win awards for having the best plot if anything it was cheesy but what was good about the first one is that it was funny and enjoyable and characters all had charm. None of that is present in the second film, there's far too many characters so there's no development or you getting time to like the characters none of them except for Jeff Goldblum have any charm. There was way too much talking through out the film rather then just getting on it with and the film was too long if there was more going on then it wouldn't have been a issue.
There were two major deaths again I won't spoil but there deaths were totally point less and no purpose at least with the first one people who died at least had meaning and purpose and were being heroes. The film really misss Will Smith and his characters son who lacks his charm and even copies his lines which fall flat and some of the film is too much of a copy of the first film.
It just feels like there trying to make the same film but with just much bigger explosions but it lacks the soul and charm of the first film.
The CGI work in the film is amazing and is a show case in how you do special effects right. For me I can give the film 5.5/10.

I agree, mindless popcorn films can be great fun if they are done with a bit of charm, with the exception of the always watchable Jeff Goldblum. This has none. However, that probably won't stop it from making a decent amount of money at the box office.
A group of survivors from the resistance in World war 2 meet up at a secluded country house to eek out the person who betrayed them.Once the accusations start flying it really becomes engrossing.Director Michael McCarthy put together a great ensemble cast for this including Anton Diffring and Christopher Lee.
