Shot Caller 8\10 a lot better than i thought it would be. Jamie Lannister is excellent in it as well

Keeping up the Joneses 2/10 - a good cast including Isla Fisher and Gal Gadot are completely wasted in yet another predictable so called comedy involving new neighbours who predictably turn out to be spies. Its only saving grace is a scene with the two leading ladies wearing lingerie.

Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut

What I like about this version is does a very good of fleshing out the story, like the start of the film you see why Zod has a such hate for Jol-El or that it continues from the first film where as other version doesn’t. You see the inter action with Superman and Jol-El when he gets rid of his powers and gets them back and emotional scene between Superman & Jol-El. The fight scenes in the film where extended and way longer, the fight at the White House much longer and Zod actually kills, Superman vs Zod & his henchmen over the city much longer and brutal and the fight at the fortress totally different and the new powers they had in the original version gone which this version much more character with the comic and the new powers they had throughout the film gone.
The ending with Superman rewinding time was how the second film was supposed to end but as the first and second film were filmed at the same time Beto Donner was fired they used the ending of second film for the first one.
People moan about Superman killing in Man of Steel yet that Superman kills Zod in both versions of Superman II no one says anything about that even Lois kills Zod’s female henchman it’s just all done in nicer way. Also with Man of Steel they complain Clark/Superman gets revenge on that truck driver with his truck again in both versions of Superman II Clark gets revenge on the bully truck driver Rocky and even in the tv Smallville Clark gets revenge on Whitney when he bullies. All in all a totally different version of Superman II and both good enough to watch as there almost different films.

Bit of trivia in this version when you don’t see Gene Hackmans face it a double as when they were filming both Superman films back to back Hackman was upset that Donner was fired during filming of both movies so he didn’t finish all the scenes.

A pair of car breakers execute a bank robbery but face a huge dilemma when their hostages accidentally get locked in the bank's strongroom.Tense and taught with strong performances by Darren Nesbitt and Colin Gordon.

Les Cowboys(2015) Initially set in rural France, and taking place from the late 1990s onwards, after a teenage girl goes missing, both her father and brother travel far and wide searching for her. Although well acted throughout, the first half is rather dour and relentless, but the second half broadens out considerably taking a few unexpected turns. As mentioned, there is strong acting from Francois Damiens as the father, Finnegan Oldfield as the brother, Ellora Torchia, a fine cameo from Antonia Campbell-Hughes and excellent supporting role from John C Reilly. The film, though set in the past, has plenty of political and cultural resonance today. Also starring Agatha Dronne,Jean-Louis Coulloc'h, Djemel Barek and Mounir Margoum. 7/10

The Flemish Farm(1943)

A war film from director Jefferey Dell.Centered around the enotional bond between an injured pilot and the nurse who helps him.Their anguish multiplied when they are seperated following Belgium surrendering to the Nazis.With strong turns from Jane Baxter and Clifford Evans.

Rogue One : A Star Wars story

I'll hold my hands up here and say I was in no way in a rush to see this, and ended up just watching it because it was on the TV right there (in amongst all the other Star Wars films), so it's fair to say I was going in predisposed not to like it.
I had not read up about it but did know (impossible to avoid) that it was basically about stealing the plans for the Death Star pre-original Star Wars.

I guess the problems I have with these endless Star Wars prequels and sequels are twofold : the repetition and the tone.

This particular one suffers from the same problems as Ep 3 : because it's firmly located in an "arc" there's only one way it can end. Which means you're watching it purely to see how you know what's going to happen happens.

Death Star again. OK, the saving grace the final act spaceship battle isn't actually an attack on it (for once presumably somebody realised that doing that for 3 out of 7 films was starting it to push it a bit ), but it might just as well be.
Just how many rebel ships are supposed to have got through that protective shield exactly in the less than thirty seconds they have before it closes? Certainly less than are seen zooming around the surface later.

The original Star Wars was a frothy feel-good comic book movie ( despite being made in the 70s, which as history records, were the decade of doom and dystopia : just look at all the other sci-fi made then) that knew it was a fairy story and happily plundered westerns, WWII movies, fantasy genres and stuffed them all into a "futuristic" space setting .

But now even comic book movies are the antithesis of cheery and feel-good. Pretty much since Tim Burton's Batman they now all have to be grim dystopian affairs where all the "heroes" are all flawed, nobody is on the "right" side, and we might as well all slit our wrists.

All these Star Wars prequels are equally determined to be "dark" and aspiring to Shakespearean tragedy (because of a fanboy consensus that "Empire" was the best film, again supposedly because it was "dark" - ignoring the fact that Empire is structurally a mess, putting the big battle at the beginning and then becoming just a bit of a run-about chase, punctuated by longeurs where the hero talks to a muppet for long periods).

What's wrong with a film where goodies are goodies and baddies are baddies ? (And the "goodies" don't all have to get killed ?)

Robin And Marian (1976) An older Robin Hood(Sean Connery)returns from The Crusades and tries to rekindle his romance with Maid Marian(Audrey Hepburn). A bittersweet, likeable drama with some gentle humour, fine lead performances and good support from Nicol Williamson as loyal Little John. Robert Shaw as is as good as ever as The Sheriff Of Nottingham who has a grudging mutual respect with Robin, while Richard Harris plays King Richard as a cruel monarch as opposed as the often sympathetic portrayal. It would have been nice to see more of Ronnie Barker as Friar Tuck and Denholm Elliott as Will Scarlett, but still probably my favourite version of the story. Also starring Ian Holm(King John),John Barrett, Kenneth Cranham, Esmond Knight and Kenneth Haigh. 7/10

all the leathal weapon movies with my son, who's coming 19. he loved the new series so made him sit through the originals. he loved them.
