The Ghost ( 2010 )
Political thriller based on the book by Robert Harris, starring Ewan McGregor & Pierce Brosnan
One of my all time favourite films
9/10
Black Souls(2014) An Italian drama about three brothers, sons of a shepherd & about how some of their family move into crime. There are the familiar gangster intrigues but the film's strengths are as a drama, contrasting the honest, rural, poor farmer's life with the glamorous but illegal gangster's world and the conflicts that arise from this. Starring Marco Leonardi,Peppino Mazzotta,Fabrizio Ferracane(especially good), Barbara Bobulova & Guiseppe Fumo 7/10
(17-08-2016 20:49 )greenray Wrote: [ -> ]Ida(2013) In 1960s Poland, a nun, ready to take her vows, visits her aunt and learns some shocking family secrets & something of the outside world. Shot in a suitable black and white as its Communist Poland, beautifully framed and despite its slowness, not really a wasted moment in its 1hr 20 min running time. Agata Kulesza as the aunt & Agata Trzebuchowska as the nun underplay it very well. Also starring Dawid Ogranik 7.5/10
Also stars Joanna Kulig who is in the Juliette Binoche film Elles which is worth a watch.
Jason Bourne : if you like the other Bournes then you will like this one as it's basically the same plot as them.
Brides of Blood(1968)
Veteran Filipino exploitation director Eddie Romero brings us to a tropical island where exposure to radiation has mutated the flaura and fauna into monsters that have developed a taste for human flesh.Naturally, the native population begin to sacrifice their female virgins in an effort to placate them.A silly idea that is poorly executed even by Eddie Romero's standards.
4/10
They Might Be Giants (1971) A man who believes he is Sherlock Holmes attempts to solve a case with the woman who is trying to treat him. An amusing film with a pretty intelligent script. George C Scott, best known for Patton proves to be adept at comedy and is matched by Joanne Woodward. Also starring Jack Gilford, Rue McClanahan, Lester Rawlins & Oliver Clark 7/10
Love From A Stranger(1937)
After winning a lottery,a women ends her relationship with her fiancé and marries a fortune hunter who turns out to be very dangerous and manipulative.Starring a pre Sherlock Holmes Basil Rathbone, who puts in a brilliant performance.
7.5/10
Die Nibelungen : Siegfried(1924)
Paul Richter stars as Siegfried who slays a wonderfully believable dragon and bathes in its blood to make him immortal in the first of two films made beautifully by Fritz Lang based on the epic medieval poem,The Song Of The Nibelungs.
8/10
The Court Jester(1955)
A swashbuckling comic farce classic with tounge twisters aplenty starring the legendary Danny Kaye as Hawkins,an entertainer to a group of outlaws who are fighting for an infant's right to be a legitimate King. The fantastically choreographed swordplay and great songs are backed up by a truly wonderful cast including Basil Rathbone,Glynis Johns,Angela Lansbury,Cecil Parker and Mildred Natwick.
