Two more shorts celebrating the 40th anniversary of Alien.
Specimen(2019)
At just under ten minutes this one was a treat,a wonderfully written and realistic character that a viewr can relate to and root for even in this short period of time, great ending as well.

Night Shift(2019)
Despite the good premise they got this one totally wrong in terms of execution,at just over ten minutes its too dark, dreary and slow going with an unfulfilling ending.Worth checking as a fan curio but that's all in my opinion.

Red Joan (2019)
An interesting story, but bland presentation. Very procedural, without much life to it.

Shazam
I really enjoyed Shazam more then i thought i would i liked that it was not afraid to poke fun at its self Zachary Levi was great as Shazam it reminded me of the film Big and Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman was good as well it did a good job with balancing comedy with at times horror with the villain and i really enjoyed the ending a cool little DC Moment has well as a couple of Mortal Kombat Reference. Shazam is a character i never really got into so i knew very little about him so maybe thats why i enjoyed it as much as i did i give Shazam 8/10
also there is a mid scene credit thast could set up a sequel despite not knowing much about Shazam I had no idea who Dr. Thaddeus Sivana was i knew who the mid scene credit was about and the end scene credit is a comedic scene poking fun at a certain DC Character
Shazam
Watched this last week Tuesday but it’s been very difficult to write a review after my hospital visit and being sick and still am
First of all loved the movie what I really liked is the film was well balanced. The basic story is of young kid called Billy Batson who has been going from foster home to foster home while trying to find his real family. The wizard finds him gives him powers and becomes the mighty Shazam. This version of his origin is based on the new 52 of the comic character and it’s pretty much spot on from the comics. The casting for me was spot on every one was perfectly cast in there roles and all very funny. Zachary Levi was perfect as Shazam and really made you believe he was a kid trapped in adults body, Asher Angel was great as Billy Batson and as the film goes on you feel for his character, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman was great too acting as a friend and mentor he nearly steals the show. Mark Strong as Doctor Sivana. John Glover who may know from the show Smallville where he played Lionel Luthor is fantastic in his role. Overall there wasn’t one weak performance in the film. This film works as stand alone film so don’t have to watch the other DC movies but it does mention and reference events that have happened.
Now the misconception is it’s a family movie and it’s a lot more adult in tone then the trailers lead you to believe and in parts it’s way more graphic then even the movie Venom so much so that when I was watching it there was a certain nasty scene and this guys two kids were scared and he took them out of the cinema.
Now the film is very funny and everyone was roaring in laughter throughout the whole film also it does take the piss out of the other DC films and characters and for once the trailers don’t spoiler the film. There a couple cameos one near the beginning setting up something and the sort of cameo at the end. The film is peppered with tons of Easter eggs from the other DC Movies and the comics. The special effects looked great along with the sound expect a couple twists in the movies and there’s a clever end credits and post credit scene and another scene after the credits end.
Definitely a step in the right direction with DC and works when they don’t try copying someone else or linking the films together.
SkyMovies SuperHeroes HD - Superman vs The Elite (2012) shown late night and recorded. Another reboot of sorts pits Superman against Atomic Skull and then he is helped in his fight for justice by four mysterious super figures with strange powers, one of which is called Manchester Black wore has a Union Flag tattooed on his chest and they become superheroes to the people of the world leading Superman to wonder if what he does is outdated - i.e. sorting out wars by getting the factions to sit down and talk - whereas these new heroes want to destroy the villains of the world. All is not what it seems(no spoilers) but I have to admit it is the first cartoon that I've watched that openly uses the word 'wanker' several times(which probably isn't understood by Americans) and some of the English accents are a little dodgy but some spot on by Americans yet there are a few real Brits used. Worth a look if you've never seen it before. Definitely NOT one for the kids!
Abduction
Average action movie.
Ore(2019)
Another good effort from the series of short films celebrating the 40th anniversary of Alien(1979).Set in a creepy mining facility the scares come thick and fast as the miners realise they have been set up by Wayland Utani. This one had more of a James Cameron feel to it,very well acted also.
