The Counselor - 2/10 - Dear Mr Scott, I'd like the last 2 hours of my life back please. Your film isn't as big and clever as it think it is, its needlessly over the top and could I suggest a little less Big Cat Diary if you plan on doing any more Mexican drug cartel films. Simple plot strung out trying to be clever. Yuck.
Day of the Triffids 7/10 classic 1960's sci fi movie based on the John Wyndham novel. Enjoyable and crying out for a big movie remake though not sure how scary walking plants would be to a modern generation. Weed killer and a flame thrower would soon sort them out.
Oblivion - 7/10. Better than I thought it would be, had elements of one or two other films, but I enjoyed it.
Quantum of Solace - 7/10.
Lincoln 8/10.
Reminded me of nothing less than an extended "West Wing" episode set in the 19th century : it's not so much about Lincoln the Man as specifically about him trying to get the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery passed by Congress during a limited window of opportunity at the dying days of the Civil War, so it concentrates almost as much on the players in the background arm-twisting for votes etc as it does on the man himself, though there is also him battling with domestic woes involving his wife and his son. So as I say it reminded me very much of the format of the West Wing TV show.
So if you're into that kind of thing - as I am - then it's a good watch.
Occasionally teeters into sentimentality but that's to be expected.
Jack The Giant Slayer
Really enjoyed this, just one piece of advice, never tell a giant to choke on your bones, it won't end well for you
8/10
Now...off to watch Oblivion
The Amazing Burt Wonderstone - 6/10 - Good, unoffensive comedy with a few laughs and Olivia Wilde
Oblivion
"Fuck You Sally"
7/10
Stand Up Guys - 8/10 - Al Pacino gets out of prison and hooks back up with his Wise Guy buddies Alan Arkin and Christopher Walken. Well worth a watch but felt Pacino and Walken were kinda going through motions (I'm a massive fan of both so maybe I set the bar too high lol)
