I really don't get this sentiment. And I'm not having a go at you Babelover -- I know that this is a common expression nowadays.
But 52-48 reveals a divided country. And we have divided Parliament. That sounds pretty representative to me.
What's more, after three years of this, we have learned that Brexit is not a binary issue. It's not just a matter of being 'in' or 'out'. There are different permutations and different degrees of being in or out. In this case, it IS possible to be 'a little bit pregnant'.
Knowing that, a 52-48 result is a mandate for a soft Brexit. Respect the 52, but don't throw the 48 under a bus as if they don't matter. The compromise that Snookered is looking for: that's it. And if they'd recognized that from the start, I think this would have ended a long time ago.
But that wasn't enough for the ERG. So everything that has happened since the referendum has just been internal party politics. We've all been sucked into some twisted Tory psychodrama and, in the end, if the hard brexiteers win, we'll be the ones that are poorer for it. And they've somehow conned us into thinking that
that's the will of the people.
Boris Johnson's own sister said on Radio 4 yesterday that one of the reasons he is behaving as he is might be that he is under pressure from individuals (hedge fund managers) that have invested money in shorting the £ on the assumption of a no deal brexit. I know I read recently that some of the Brexit backers at the time of the referendum were the same type of people and they also made money when the vote was to Leave. The same people also backed Johnson in his leadership campaign.
Imagine that that man is the leader of your country, someone who is willing to economically cripple the country to keep his financial backers happy. Unbelievable

I'm afraid as I've said before he is a most unsavoury character as the revelations about his "american lady friend" when he was Mayor of London also show. Whatever one's thoughts on Brexit or politics in general he is unfit for political office.
I'm sure someone somewhere will reveal other revelations from his time as Mayor of London that we even don't know about that have yet to surface.
He is more unfit for political office than Trump possibly
I Can see that the disarray that both main parties are in at the moment, in a GE it is the Lib Dems which could make unexpected gains and in a hung parliament their MP's could hold sway over both main parties over who should be in Govt
I suppose the big telling point will be when he has to make leaders' speech at the Tory Conference
