It's come to our attention that you owe us £60. Having looked at the total you receive for the year, we're sure you'll agree it's such an insignificant amount that it won't cause you any problems if we just deduct £15 from your next 4 payments.
Yours sincerely, The Dept of Work and Pensions."

£60 Billion is only about half the Nhs budget for a year. Makes you wonder why it's in crisis when we have 'trillions' slopping around Rolleyes

If this was agreed to, it was agreed to.

I believe this is spread over a few years, 2021 was touted, it being the amount britian agreed to pay per year to the EU anyway, the amount you seem to be happy for the UK to pay for ever and anon. If you signed up to a years memebership to a gymn, you have to pay if you go or not.

Suddenly oh look it's half the NHS budget.

Equally, the EU has to pay whatever they agreed to pay the UK as well.

The UK seems to have billions to spend on aid to India and other places when they are spending billions on their military, may be the UK should look to see who realy needs the aid then spend the money more wisley back home.

thats the problem with having a hard target on 0.7 percent of GDP to hit for Overseas aid

Pisses me off give 12 billion and yet the UN says up to 20 million people are starving to death in Nigeria, Yemen , Somalia and Sudan
(11-03-2017 08:59 )HannahsPet Wrote: [ -> ]this 60 billion is for the 2 years we are in talks and also something to do with the pensions of EU people prob all the pensions of all the MEP's there has been for god knows how long on 3X average salary. So bascially we have to pay for fucking Farages pension Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue thats one reason for us to tell them where to stick it Tongue Tongue Tongue Tongue

think they dont want to pay because of the politics of it. think about it Boris and Co spent all campaign about giving 350 million a week to EU. and then to leave we have to give them 60 Billion when the NHS and Care system and the schools are in crisis.

And after those 2 years IF the UK contractually has to pay that amount, then after it will never have to be paid again.

Quote:In 2015, the UK’s full membership fee was £17.8 billion.

This is 35.6 billion the UK would have to pay anyway in those two years.

Leaving 24.4 billion, divide that by 2 it's 12.2 billion, this is less than 2 years normal membership of the EU; even less if it was 50 billion UK owes.

Throwing 60 billion figures sounds a lot said all at once and saying it's half the amount of the NHS budget to make it seem even more emotive, but it actually much less than 4 years EU memebership and won't have to be paid again.

In the long run it's going to be cheaper for the UK, that's never been in doubt, it's what the UK loses by not being in the commen market, thats the only part from leaving the EU that the UK could possibly be worse off, but this is off set by being able to trade with whoever.
The whole debate about cutting Foreign Aid is pure racism. You could forget the rubbish about increasing Defence budgets, then have plenty of money for any aid scheme in this country or elsewhere you like. The "savings" on scrapping/cutting F-Aid are a pittance compared to other scams that the precious bloody Daily Mail wouldn't attack in a million years.
Doddle its that argument that led to Brexit. if you cant discuss how money is spent then it pisses people off. Im all for spending the 12 billion but it has to be accountable otherwise we get these daily mail storys about 26 million on a African spice girl band.

meanwhile 20 million are starving to death

Its the same with the NHS private companies that supply the NHS are royally ripping off us yet nothing gets done about it 27£ for a Gluten free loaf is one example prob billions in waste money that could be put into the front line

Stop wofting the race card.

Nobody is saying stop foreign aid, merely don't give it to countries that is spending billions on their military.

Fair enough give aid, but give it were it is needed.

I have to have gluren free, if I have bread it's £2.99, or 2 bagettes at £3

Nonsense. UK Aid to India & Pakistan this year will be £500 milion. Both countries have Nuclear weapons programmes and should be made to spend that money on their citizens first.

£500 million is not a pittance by anyone's standards. It could do wonders if spent on School buildings & repairs.

If this makes me racist, then so be it.

The media folk who bring it up DO want to stop it!

I daresay there is scope for better direction of aid spending.

Take the whole Band Aid thing, supporting the Ethiopian famine. Of course, Ethiopia were at war with Eritrea at the time and Ethiopia were the aggressors. Is it credible that Eritrea should have no victims, no starving, no media attention and no money?

I realise this is getting beyond the remit of Europe now, sorry laugh
it's a fair point
once Brexit kicks in we can have something else to focus on while negotiations take place like Jeremy Corbyn
I'm just bloody glad that he's not part of the negotiating team, he's probably would want us to be back in Europe, but whne he say's it's fine for Scotland to have 2nd independence referendum he's sure focusing more on breaking up the Union
