The UK signed up to the EU budget and agreed what we would pay. We are the ones breaking that contract so it's not unreasonable for a financial settlement to be required. Yes the amount may be subject to negotiation but the Brexiteers didn't mention any of this did they?

I agree, but that contract goes both ways. You can't have we want that money, but you can't access to the EU it's paying for - unless it's retro debt.

My point isn't about the UK paying back money it owes, it's the EU making a massive issue out of it disproportional to what it is. And trying to use that to block negotiations yet again via black mail the UK yo get money.

The PM wants to negotiate on all aspects at the same time, there is nothing wrong and it certianly is not unteasonable.

Odd thing is, that 50 bil is around 4 or 5 years worth UK contributions any way, bout the time the negotiations will probbaly end up taking.

Like they say, Britian never really got anything it pushed for.
No Merkel, it won't be cheap, Germany and the 3 or 4 other net contributers to the EU are now going to dig deeper in their pockets to support the 20 odd other nations of the EU.

Dig into those pockets Merkel, no wonder your so pissed off.

So feck off with your dumb ass threats.
They talk about us having a hard Brexit in the press and it seems that's what the EU are pushing for all along not us

EXACTLY!

I said right at the begining of all this that the EU were trying to blackmail the UK in to remianing in the EU because they want UK money. Of course I was scoffed at and apparently the EU were only giving a nice polite warning.

If was interesting to see the attitude of both side before and after Trumps electon. Before it was, the UK will do as we say or else attitude, then when a Strongly UK president in favour of Brexit became president, EU was suddenly , er, lets not be so hasty shall we? I'm sure we can work it out, lets be fwriends, and May be like, do as your damn told EU. Now Trump has more important things to do like starting ww3 it's back to the UK will do as we order.

I also fail to see how the UK, especially long term, would be worse of than the EU by leaving Brexit, it being the second biggest net contributer to the EU.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/finan...-know.html

About 20 of the EU countries are net recipiants - and thats WITH UK's money. Money lost from the UK (especially in the long run) will have to be found from some where, and that means the richest countries that are already contributing the most will have to dig deeper. And Germany apparently can't even find the 2% per annum contributions to NATO.

Those twats in the EU also need to get a reality check and everybody wants to stop it with the treats and live in the land of reality. The EU will not want to loose billions of pounds worth of trade with the UK and from what I remember the UK imports way more from the EU than they do from us. Rights of citizens WILL be protected and again, there are 4 times the amount of EU citizen living in the UK than there are UK citizens in the vast long mass of the EU. Wereas the UK can trade with the rest of the world and recruit from there also.

The EU cannot basically say, we damand everything we want up front before negotiations start; quite frankly I'd rather the UK walk away than be black mailed by an organization whos majority of countries are actually receiving more than they are giving; that's like people on the dole demanding more money or else.

Fucking jog on and hope Le Penn doesn't win or that will be the end of the EU.

PS, it seems also that nearly half of the UK population voting to remian in the EU is an irrelavance to them also; their lust for UK's money out weighs the soft option also.

Remeber, there is only on way that this could be bad for Britian, and that's if the EU went down the punishing route. But Britian will recover and in the long run, the damage my be more terminal to the EU than UK.

^ I suppose thats what happens when eveybody is trying to fuck you over (even if it was technically the British people who voted Brexit).

This will be the remainer that everybody else is trying to bully.? Have people forgotten she is pro EU? Rolleyes

The British public voted and she is doing what the majority want.

Still though, if people think giving the EU absolutely everything it demands BEFORE it will listen to the UK then she's doing a terrible job for not giving it them.

If on the other hand, in the world of reality, she is asking for negotiations to start as soon as possible and everyhting to be debated at the same time, then I for one think she is being reasonable.

Be under no illusions, leaving the EU could have been great for the UK, at the very least it could have been an amicable agreement, but the EU has stated openly they want to punish the UK and all the people in it because it's loosing the SECOND biggest contributer. Those dumbass remainers are too fucking stupid to realise this.

This is absolutly the responsibility of the EU for being completely unreasoning and vindictive; I can only assume they think by being cunts that will some how make the UK stay.
^^ that's a lot of words about a humorous (in my opinion) Internet meme...
