Ian Bremmer, Chair of geopolitical risk consultancy Eurasia Group & teacher at Colombia University's School of International and Public Affairs, lists his pros & cons of US congress vote on TikTok
G-Zero Media: Should The US ban TikTok ?
Whilst pretty much all the news outlets are reporting this vote as a ban, what the bill would actually do is give ByteDance an ultimatum to sell TikTok to a US company or be banned.
Sell to us or we'll ban you doesn't seem quite right, even though I understand where it's coming from. Hmmm.
Trump of course has come out against banning TikTok. Just a coincidence he recently met with a US Trump supporter & donor who has over $30Bn of Tiktok shares

That would make that donor one of the richest people in world?!
^Jeff Yass. His net worth is around $29 Billion. If he flogged his TikTok shares for their current value he still wouldn't crack the Top 10 of the World's richest people. The current number 10 is Steve Ballmer (Microsoft) who is worth $80 Billion.
He's still loaded by any reasonable measure.
Another great example of the media getting in its own way…
All the mainstream media is going bananas over Trump’s most recent outrage, claiming there will be “a bloodbath” if he is not elected.
The Guardian has it in the headline, and the first paragraph says Trump predicts “a bloodbath for the country” if he is defeated in November.
Sounds awful, doesn’t it?
But it’s taken completely out of context. Listen to the speech. He is talking about the American auto industry both before and after he uses that expression. There is no question that he is talking about “a bloodbath” for American auto industry jobs.
Yes, it’s a poor, over-the-top choice of word, but he doesn’t come close to saying what all the media outlets are attributing to him.
My point being…
How can we criticise Fox News and the right-wing “echo chamber” if the left wing media is no better? How can we despair at the MAGA drones who parrot his lies and falsehoods, if we are spreading misinformation of our own?
Drives me up the wall
I've only got one word in response to that - Karma.
If he can't pay it, or secure a bond for it, he faces having assets liquidated. but would that hamper his chances of president?
