We do have to remember that some American's try to credit themselves with inventing a lot more than they actually have, like apple pie, hot dogs, blue denim, peanut butter, the car, television, democracy oh and their anthem. There are probably more too, but these are the ones I actually know, don't tell them though, they'll only get themselves upset or cry fake news. As American as apple pie. lol.
See this is interesting because Bell did become a naturalized citizen of The United States and the patent for the Bell Telephone was filed in The US, however the filing of that patent was six years before he became a citizen. He was born in Scotland & lived there for 23 years then moved to Canada, he spent a total of 40 years living in the United States.
So this kind of comes down to a judgement call of when does an immigrant become a citizen of that country. He spent most of his life in the United States and became a legal citizen, though in his older years he moved back to Canada and died in Nova Scotia. Would you call a Pakistani or a Japanese person who has lived most of their life in this country and holds citizenship, British?
Fun fact: Bell also did work with Aeronautics, The Aerial Experiment Association (AEA) was a Canadian-American aeronautical research group formed under the leadership of Bell, which kind of fits into Trump's other faux pas
Fun fact 2: Bell was also a proponent of eugenics, he worked with deaf people and in a lecture he gave to The National Academy of Science he noted that congenitally deaf parents were more likely to produce deaf children and tentatively suggested that couples where both parties were deaf should not marry. He had a hobby of breeding livestock which led him to being appointed to a committee on eugenics for the American Breeders Association who extended the principle towards humans. He was the chairman & president of eugenics advisory boards and organisation like these and others advocated compulsory sterilization laws of people whom Bell called a "defective variety of the human race".
Though Bell himself was not a proponent of compulsory sterilization, he felt that the science should focus on the breeding of desirable hereditary traits instead of focusing on undesirable ones, he was a key figure in the eugenics movement that brought about the forced sterilization laws of the state of California that would eventually be adopted by The Nazi Party & eugenics became a large part of the Holocaust.
This ties in with Trump again as it has been alleged by his former biographer that Trump is a proponent of eugenics believing in the racehorse theory.
As Trump does not believe immigrants should be allowed to stay and become citizens (unless they are related to him) it’s a bit rich for him to claim AGB who himself said the telephone was invented in Canada but made in America. Oh and that all happened before he became a US Citizen
Wonder what speech he'll give for the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landings? Will he try to claim it is part of America?

I'm sure Ms Sturgeon will quietly remind Trump that he (AGB) was Scottish first and foremost
