But if Pence is the alternative, they might well do that.
The Democrats would do well to work out who they want as an alternative to focus around.

Yes, if Pence stays clean and Trump becomes toxic to their own chances of re-election, they won't hesitate to throw him to the wolves.
Some of the Republicans can barely tolerate him anyway.

The line of succession is clear. If Trump vacates his office for any reason then Mike Pence would take over. If Pence vacates the Presidency then the speaker of the House of Representatives takes over (Paul Ryan). Next in line is the President of the Senate (Orrin Hatch).
If Mike Pence were to take over from Trump he would be the 15th vice president to assume the presidency, Lyndon Johnson and Gerald Ford being the two since WW2. Never has anyone beyond the vice president had to take over the presidency for any reason.
How bad would it have to be, before they had to re-run the election?
I think that's what Doddle was alluding to, when he said the Democrats need to find an alternative to rally round...

if the investigation conclude that Russia was able to give the result to Trump then they would have to either give it to Clinton and potentially Jail Trump and his crew or run the election again.
knowing Trump he'll hire a lawyer who could get him off any charge I bet
I would think re - running the election would not be in Clinton's favour

If opinion polls are to be believed Clinton would win a rerun easily. She did 'win' the election by 3 million votes anyway.
However, it should be noted that Clinton has not so far asked or even suggested that the election should be rerun.
Any action depends on the result of the investigation which I am sceptical about delivering the correct result as sir Humphrey would say internal investigations are held simply to but one self in the clear.

Actually, I just meant in general. It seems they're sitting on their hands because "it's just a matter of time" until Russian involvement is "proven" and they needn't lift a finger until then, particularly with most of the media waggling their fingers at Trump.
Of course, if there is a re-run, I expect they'll just fall in behind Project Hillary again

If they weigh in before anything is proven though, it just makes them look sore losers (as Trump will be sure to point out).
But they really need to start from scratch, while they have the time, and find someone better than Clinton.
