the only rule i kind of agree with is to do with the watershed. by having a clear change of mood from daytime shows to a night show would stop most of the complaints. surely by 10pm the kiddies should be in bed but between 9 and 10 most are still watching tv. during the summer you step outside see more flesh on display than on the babechannels during the day.
there needs to be a body like ofcom to make sure what goes out on tv is suitable, i am talking about complete censorship.
It's now getting to the point where all the channels should go out with all guns blazing, no holding back p*****y shows galore with a cardboard cut out in the background displaying the message Fuck Ofcom because it's getting to the point now where it's all or nothing. It'll certainly give Ofcom something to stew over and maybe some kind of compromise can be thrashed out in the aftermath of all of this. Ofcom believe it or not would not want to be losing these channels as they'd have nobody left to fine.

ofcom need to reform their complaints prodecure by not accepting complaints after the indicent in question is being talked about in the public media eg brand and ross "sachsgate" more people complained about after the story broke then when it was broadcasted. they recieved only about 100 or so then monday morning it went upto 100,000+
Like I have said before......when is this `watershed` ever going to stop advancing.
Everyone with children know they do not all go to bed before 9pm,but everyone with children should know that adult time is just that and make sure their kids `dont`watch tv after 9pm unless they are being supervised...

Let me rephrase this what I meant was that if the government had to make extra cuts wouldn't it be fantastic to see an end to ofcom. Ofcourse I wouldn't want to see a major slump such as the great wall street crash in the 1930's because that would mean we'd all panic and Germany would vote somebody like Hitler into power again and yet another World War. Things do come in 3's however so I think the Germans are well overdue for a rematch after all it must have been very hard for them to come so close only to end up with yet again runner's up medals. Like my Mother used to say it's the winning that's important, not the taking part.
I accept that a great deal of what the public sector does is necessary. Heck, I even oppose privatisation of the Post Office and rail network. We need state schools, hospitals, pensions, banking regulation (even if it could be better), roads...
I also think that there are huge areas that have grown up over the years that really would not survive cold hard analysis. Many are functions, tasks and overhead inside otherwise worthy bodies.
Why should the BBC undercut education publishers by having education material on its website? Why should the state run The Tote (if it still does)? Are Welsh language documents necessary in South Wales? Why should local councils fund public parties? They are there to fix the drains.
Some of what Ofcom does is worthy. Much is not. A good hard examination would probably reveal that 50% of their activities fall into the realm of excessive state meddling and should be cut.
Not streamlined, but cut.
And that is apart from areas that they should do, but do badly or over-zealously.
We already have an economic slump. Early warning aircraft costing £8 billion are being hacksawed apart to save £2 billion over 10 years. Schools are being cut, hospitals are closing: wasting money on meddling cannot be justified. Im with scottishbloke on this one.
Things such as television, Internet and Radio should all be left alone to carry on as they see fit as afterall they are classed as entertainment and something we all like to enjoy in our spare time besides drinking, smoking and gambling and going to the occasional strip clubs aswell as paying money to see our teams getting beat on a Saturday. Everyday life has it's stress's, trials and tribulations and what piss's off most people is when despite going out to work long hard shifts that we have to also tolerate the likes of ofcom dictating to us what they deem suitable viewing or not. I'll be fucked with this kind of dictatorship. Watching the babe channels makes a lot of people happy and gives us something to look forward to watching after a long hard shift at work. Some people like to watch the news 24 hours a day that's fine with me. Infact I don't give 2 flying fucks what anybody go's home to watch on the telly and neither should ofcom. What ofcom are doing is bang out of order and an infringement on our human rights to decide for ourselves what we class as entertainment in our leisure time or not. Just out of curiosity, who used to govern tv etc before ofcom, because the thing I remember about tv when I was growing up was how much stuff was cut out of films.
I remember the first time I saw die hard on retail VHS, I was amazed how much was cut out from the tv broadcast (had a recording on VHS)
Was it regulated or self regulated?
