What is really worrying me lately is the fact that this Government and the politicians and some of the press are always looking for a scapegoat in order to explain society's evil crimes that are carried out.

Like everyone within the UK we have had to witness such appalling crimes lately such as the sexual abuse and murder of April Jones. A truly sickening act of evil and that's exactly how I would sum it up.

Rather than the politicians reflecting on this they have once again used porn as a scapegoat. Under new proposals anyway wishing to access adult material will first of all have to log into google, once this is done then your name will be entered on a large database and every single site and seach you carry out will be documented and policed. Whatever happened to privacy.

Evil is something that will always exist and a lot of it can be down to a number of factors but why should us law abiding, tax paying and good citizens have to suffer the consequences as a result of an evil handful of individuals.

Right now the whole adult industry and the 900+ channels which we currently watch are currently under fire. Get this one politican that was interviewed made this statement on SKY News.

"We believe that once somebody starts to look at porn they will move on and on to even more graphic material just like a drug user would do and this needs to be curbed"

What an uneducated arsehole this man really is. We are on the brink of losing everyday freedoms which we all used to take for granted. I'm getting to the stage now where I wonder how long will it take before the Government decides to lock us all up and put us in a big cage whilst Big Brother monitors our every move.

Soon we won't be able to take a piss without somebody else knowing about it.
I agree. That politician would be a horrible psychologist/psychiatrist!

This is like the video game issue, where if violence happens, it must be because kids are playing violent video games RolleyesRolleyes
Also it's worth pointing out that after millions of years of evolution the human mind is capable of knowing the difference between fantasy and reality. I too have played many a violent video game in my time, driven like a maniac in many racing games not to mention guided my Dundee United team to numourous football titles including winning the World Club Championship.

I have never walked the streets and thought this is just like a video game or driven a car on the motorway whilst taking out the rest of my opponents any which way I can on the way to my job interview for new Dundee United manager based on my record on football manager.

The politicians of today are pure fantasists. They would do well to see the reality that is presented in front on their very own eyes. Pscho's exist in every society and they are the ones that need help alongside the politicians who need some commonsense knocked into them.

Also I'd like to know exactly what makes the likes of the politicians and ofcom qualified exactly in what causes widespread offence, have any of them got degree's in psychology or is it just pack mentality, nobody wants to be the one that stands up and say's. "Hold on a minute here but I think you're talking out of your arse"

We need politicians to be thinkers, not yes men making important decisions that could very well destroy all of our freedoms Cool
Every politician is an addict; addicted to the Class AA drug of power.
They will do and say anything to hold on to that power.

I hate the lot of them, no matter what coloured rosette the arseholes wear.
It makes me laugh when politicians talk about things like violence in videos and games leading to real life violence.
They would do well to remember one of the most obscenely violent episodes in modern history, the first world war! No videos or games involved there. In fact, it was the politicians and army officers who sent thousands of ordinary young men to meet a most violent death in the most appalling of conditions. And this was a time when most of those politicians and army officers came from the upper classes!

If you look back through history, religion has been responsible for endless wars and violence, yet we don't have politicians campaigning to shut down churches and ban religion.

Sadly the opportunistic parasites in Westminster are using the tragic recent events to try to push through more oppressive legislation, by resurrecting the bill allowing them to spy on our every move on the net, emails, tweets, browsing, you name it. The ISP's are opposed to this level of surveillance on every citizen in the country. Several big name companies overseas, google, facebook, twitter, yahoo and microsoft, have opposed this move, which would require them to keep detailed records of UK citizens activities while on their sites and using their software.

The move to have Ofcom oversee the banning of extremists appearing on our screens is really just a publicity stunt that will do nothing to actually stop extremism. When the IRA faced a similar ban, they still appeared on tv, just with actors speaking their words. That showed them!

Perhaps these politicians should concentrate on fixing the economy, maybe then there would be more jobs to go round, so young people would have a brighter future to look forward to and wouldn't feel the need to hide from their bleak reality in drink and drugs and video games etc
There are about 64 million folk in UK and only a few children thank goodness are kidnapped/murdered..Thats about 1 in 20 million chance this would happen and they blame tv/computer/porn mags for it? Its just some sick individuals who are going to do that anyway..What I am saying this act of disgust and horribleness is rare and not caused by any factors. There are perhaps a million toddlers out today playing but touch wood nowts happened due to no unhinged sickos about,NOTHING TO DO WITH TV ETC.

Now there are lots of rapes everyday but how many females are on tv showing their genitals and giving the come on,NONE.So TV did not cause these rapes to happen as Ofcom may seem to point too as a point to ban female genitals on tv and look responsible ..

Would censoring the internet stop these murders of April Jones/Holly Wells etc and give the police the tip off they need..Would the random stabbing of Lee Rigby alerted police to stop this act? No chance.

So in conclusion to all the above comments the idiots who control us and are in charge are way off the mark. They are doing it to create a scapegoat and use porn as a chance to irradicate it from our lives as a sort of do gooders act,,BUT,,we see through this as these events were going to happen anyway..So a wank at school then turns to murder and rape as I watch my first porn film eghh ,,don't think so, its down so the deluded individual which thankfully there is not many of.
The calls for censorship would have more credibility if the politicians could come up with a workable scheme to censor religious extremists and hate preachers whether Northern Irish Christians, Muslim extremists, Sikhs, or whatever. Last weeks interviews showed that it is very difficult to devise a regulatory regime that effectively blocks unpalatable ideas.

In the 1990s Gerry Adams was banned, but banning the person did not block the message, and he was voiced over by someone who sounded more normal. These days there are more communication channels so it is much harder to ban a person let alone an idea.

To be honest in general publicising some extreme preachers (in small doses) after an atrocity only increases public revulsion and will deflect some potential supporters. That is a win for society.

Time and again the sad losers who commit atrocities turn out to have had direct contact with hate preachers over a long period. Even turning the entire internet off would not stop that.

As for the piece of scum who murdered April Jones, the Daily Mail would have people belive that he became a paedophile because of the internet. Dont get me wrong, child porn is vile, wrong, wrong, wrong. But it is clear from the reports that he "had a temper", systematically sought out violent images and images of children. He went looking for the images, not the other way round. Doubtless there will be a debate about what got him started but millions of people have access to exactly the same search engines and dont turn into monsters.

As for the censorship lobbys argument that access to porn densenetises men (its only ever men) and makes them need stronger and stronger material to gain satisfaction, can the censorship lobby explain why that is not also true of sex between newlyweds?
I just wanted to echo the sentiments of many of the views here.

The horrific murder of the little girl April in the news recently has made me feel incredibly upset and very angry at the same time. I'm 100% behind capital punishment in cases like this that are proven in court.

I have to say though when these terrible events occur (very rarely thank God) the gutter press and a few 'lets make a name for myself' politicians love to blame mainstream sexual entertainment, by that I mean adult pornography featuring consenting performers.

The UK has some of the most strict rules regarding 'porn' anywhere in the world, yet still these isolated yet highly abhorrent events happen. I am 100% sure they would still happen at the same rate if there was ZERO 'porn' or adult entertainment available.

Look at other countries that have far less tough sex laws e.g. Holland, do they have a far higher rate of sex crimes? I doubt it. The UK is (and has been for ages) sexually repressed and like all other countries we have our percentage of sickos.

Things should always be put (and kept) in context.

Thanks

Shylok
The thing about the April Jones case, from what I read he had several images of local girls on his pc, taken from their facebook pages, and was trying to friend them on there. Yet the calls are for porn to be banned not for facebook to be banned!

I understand he also lured the girl into his van/landrover. In another case just unfolding, it appears a teenage girl has been killed and dumped, apparently by someone she knew. Her body must have been transported there by some sort of vehicle. Going back to the yorkshire ripper and beyond, a common theme in so many tragic cases like this is the ready access to a vehicle.
So it's clear then, ban cars/vans except for legitimate business use which can then be tracked and traced. Clearly having personal use of motor vehicles leads to such unacceptable behaviour.

I hate to poke fun at such tragic events, but this is the logic that is applied, and unfortunately, all too many people fall for it.
In the wake of the twin towers and 7/7 bombings, new laws were introduced to allow access to personal information. The intention was to make it easier for law enforcement to get access to this information to find out about and monitor potential terrorist suspects and sympathisers. Figures have since proved that the vast majority of uses of this legislation have been for far more mundane cases, like local councils chasing people for parking fines!
What was brought in for one purpose is being used (abused!) for something completely different.

We shouldn't let the politicians and others use tragedies like these, or public outcries like the phone hacking scandal, to further curtail our freedoms. If we head down this path, the UK will start to become as restrictive in it's internet access, broadcasting and publishing as the likes of China!

Next thing you know they'll be proposing a return to trial without juries ... oh no wait, they've already done that!
OK, so next thing you know, they'll be snatching people off the streets and 'disappearing' them in secret jails without trial ... oh no wait, Guantanamo!

Hmmm, maybe we are too late already Rolleyes
No doubt the "liberal fascists" will using this tragic case to punish perfectly normal, hard working and law abiding citizens who happen to have an interest in sex.

The last 2-3 nights across the babe channels have been ultra safe. Last night a girl who normally went fully nude was wearing 2 chuffing pairs of knickers and normally raunchy Lacey on 909 kept her knickers on. Are the channels running scared or has a coded warning gone out from Ofcon?
