Interesting Article today in the guardian about Broadcasters wanting to get rid of the watershed however the part that stands out in the article is The proposed overhauling of pin protection rules would not cover adult channels.

coba do not include any of the owners of babe channels, so while the PIN issue for them is not relevant at this very early point it might become so later if a broader discussion about watershed and PIN protection takes place. Perhaps the likes of Playboy should keep an eye on this.
Having read the article, this is an opinion I have been mentioning since day 1 on this forum. We have always had the technology to do so and I'm glad to see the broadcasters finally supporting this idea.
What impact could that have on the babe channels. Well a very positive one if you ask me. Pin protection could give us 24/7 decent babe channel content.

As I have also previously stated, change within the structure of current ofcom rules isn't going to come from the adult channels but from the bigger mainstream ones.
Only thing is now is the neighbours will all be wondering why my curtains are still shut in the middle of the afternoon if such a proposal is rubber stamped.
Interesting idea and one that should go forward. The currently system creates an artififical distinction between premium and ordinary channels giving a handful of broadcasters a commercial advantage. Lets not kid ourselves that homes with premium channels dont have kids in, so the current system only gives weak protection.
Coba are trying to be clever and sidestep the adult broadcasting issue. Not sure how their proposal would work for sex films on a Sky premium channel like the one they used to run.
Having said that full strength adult content during the day will never take off. The argument is that some households contain parents who are abusive or do not have boundaries resulting in Dad watching FuckBabesXXX performing live sex while the kids eat breakfast. Yes, it is a case of everyone paying the price for a few shit parents, but it is an argument that wins people over.
What it should do is open the door to a modern discussion about what happens after 9pm.
Sky should make PIN protection available for free on any channel that wants it instead of charging a small fortune even if the show is not subscription/PPV.
Ofcom should allow babe channels to broadcast full strength cert 18 material with PIN protection - instead of insisting on a paywall.
Babe chat should be allowed stronger images and language sooner, say 10pm instead of midnight.
The ridiculous advertising rule that sex cannot be used in adverts for sex chat lines should be dropped, allowing babe channels to broadcast calls, filthy talk and more explicit images. It's a made up UK rule, not European law, unlike the distinction between Editorial and Teleshopping shows.
Oh - it would be nice to see the return of naughy bits in mainstream TV too. Hot Gossip. Nude segments in satire. Benny Hill. OTT.

Wow, I'm shocked! I thought it was "The Mary Whitehouse Brigade" that made these complaints, however it seems that rival channels love to use Ofcom to put others out of business.
Perhaps the channels making these complaints are the real villains and not Ofcom?

Thanks to NOTW for requesting this information. Hopefully the forum can now see that it is other Babe channels that do not want explicitness on TV.
No one should be surprised to discover that rival channels have been using Ofcom in order to hurt their competition. Like I've said before, it's hard to feel sorry for the babe channels when they've done a wonderful job so far in screwing themselves over by grassing each other up! Total bunch of clowns the lot of 'em.
Getting back to the pin code encryption topic because in all honesty this fellow channel grassing up on each other is really going over old ground. Why ofcom can't see through this scam I will never know.
As far as I'm led to believe if a bill is pass through that allows the channels to encrypt a channel without having to pay a kings ransom for the privilege to do so then in theory that should work but hold on a minute because it's ofcom we're talking about here.
Let's just say that all the channels go down the line of pin protection at first it might become voluntary but end up mandorary but only problem is ofcom will somehow still find a reason to keep the rules as strict as they are at present.
This protecting the kids and irresponsible parents line which ofcom like to keep using as an excuse for the channels not to show stronger content will once again be used as an all too convenient reason to justify their continuing censorship.
In ofcom's eyes the minors will still somehow be able to know their parents 4 digit pin code which historically speaking is the same amount of digits you would use to take out money using a bank card or paying with a credit card.
I fear that no matter how many safety measures are put in place that ofcom will never allow for harder shows because the truth of the matter is that they object to it by their own morals. They don't like this entertainment and never will and will do their best to stifle it for as long as they remain as TV regulator.
