Great post, eccles, but I have quite literally run out of things to say about Ofcom.
I'm fustrated too but some of da stuf da gals do leave ofcom wid no choice but to fine the companies, take Amanda rendall where it culd b said dat she single handedly caused bangbabes to go out of business which is justified thru da vids posted on ere, bb were warned once but neva listened so some of the girls have to take responsibility and blame for the fines. some of the ofcom reports I read were of utter stupidity such as a girl mimicking sexual intercourse and masturbation just after 9pm, that's asking for ofcom to take notice.

Exactly! shan, yours is just the kind of post this battle doesn't need. All you're suggesting with your comments is that the channels roll over and surrender. How is that going to achieve anything?

No comment required, I just hope it helps inform someone or help evidence their absurd policies. Also its far too long, but I didnt want to misrepresent some of the religious issues. Ill have a go at one line summaries of each decision for readability sometime.

Shan - Lets not blame Amanda, the presenters have very little say over what is broadcast. One quick slip perhaps, but not multiple extended performances pushing boundaries over several months.

Not providing recordings was stupid but would not have been an issue if Ofcom had not investigated content that should be legal. And Lollypopgate was unintentional, a webcam feed was accidentilly broadcast.

As for simulated intercourse, Film4 is showing Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid at lunchtime on Christmas Day. TCM is showing Gone With The Wind followed by Ben Hur. The Horror Channel is showing Hawk the Slayer. Dont these films feature simulated killing?

Apart from anything else the "simulated intercourse" referred to isnt even convincing. Hip thrusts with hands well away from the fun area. Unlike the simulated killings. Plenty of mums will be allowing their 16 year old kids to attend discos and clubs over the holidays, fully aware that more convincing bump and grind will occur.

Kids should not be watching adult channels at any time of day. At 9pm it is up to parents to exercise control over TVs in bedrooms. If the family are all watching an adult channel on the family TV then their problems are way beyond anything Ofcom can deal with.

So the 9pm transition really isnt the big issue Ofcom try to make out, at least for adult channels.
Not strictly an Ofcom story as it is self-censorship but what the heck...

Tim Minchin fumes over song cut from Jonathan Ross show
Comedian Tim Minchin has lashed out at ITV after his performance was cut from Jonathan Ross's Christmas special.

Writing on his website, Minchin said he had been asked to compose a song for the show and wrote a "silly, harmless" lyric comparing Jesus to Woody Allen.

He claims the song - which he describes as "not very contentious" - was cut because the broadcaster feared it might generate negative press attention.

In a statement, ITV said Minchin's song "didn't quite work editorially".

The broadcaster felt the song was "not right tonally" for the rest of the chat show, the BBC was told.

Ross, whose chat show moved to ITV1 earlier this year, defended Minchin's song on Twitter.

"Really gutted that the brilliant @timminchin song has been cut from my show," he wrote. "[The] decision was out of my hands."

Minchin, who co-wrote the Royal Shakespeare Company's critically acclaimed Matilda: The Musical, posted footage of the performance on his YouTube page on Thursday.

The lyrics describe Jesus as "short, Jewish and quite political/often hesitant and quite analytical," before concluding: "Praise be to Woody Allen Jesus."

"It's not a particularly original idea, but it's quite cute," wrote the comedian on his blog.

"Being TV, I knew it would have to be gentle."

Nervous

Minchin goes on to say how the first edit of the chat show retained the song in full.

"And then someone got nervous and sent the tape to ITV's director of television, Peter Fincham," he alleges.

Mr Fincham, Minchin claims, "demanded that I be cut from the show... because he's scared of the ranty... right-wing press."

"It's hardly the end of the world," he concedes. "But I have to admit I'm really... disappointed."

ITV said the decision to cut the song would have been taken by senior executives in conjunction with Jonathan Ross's production company, Hot Sauce.

It did not confirm Mr Fincham's involvement directly. But it is likely the broadcaster's director of television would have final approval of the programme, to be broadcast on 23 December.

"We often make changes to programmes before transmission," ITV said in its statement.

This amused me. Apologies for posting here but it doesnt fit any headings. Think of it as a scary vision of the future in a world where censorship has gone mad. Specially liked the screen pic.

Virgin Media programme guide censorship hits glitch
[Image: _57419652_vmedia.jpg]
Barge owners have long known just how dirty the UK's canals get become

Virgin Media's electronic programme guide's filter has gone into overdrive.

Over recent days, subscribers to the firm's TV and radio services have been offered the highlights of the "Manchester City v A***nal" game and "Jarvis C**ker's Sunday Service".

Meanwhile, movie lovers could tune into The 39 Steps, a "Hitchc**k remake".

In a statement, a Virgin Media spokeswoman said: "The altered titles have been swiftly an*lysed and we're fixing any remaining glitches."

The firm blamed an "overzealous profanity checker" for the fault.

Subscribers have been posting screenshots of the mistakes on Twitter.

Other examples include the Will Smith movie "Hanc**k", the panel show "Never Mind the Buzzc**ks" and the The Bleak Old Shop Of Stuff, a "Charles D***ens" spoof.

It's barely slightly offensive, even to the religious. The most contentious bit (of this snippet as is) is the quite political, and where on earth did he get hesitant? Anyone who declares himself the Ceaser of the Kingdom of God is not shy about either.

Woops now we are drifting into religion, better steer clear. Merry Christmas everyone!
(08-12-2011 18:02 )Ofcome Wrote: [ -> ]Just a reminder to any broadcasters that might be reading, over the festive season many children will stay up later than usual, possibly even until midnight to see Santa, party or see the New Year in. The Broadcasting Code clearly states that appropriate scheduling should take account of school time, weekends and holidays. Accordingly Ofcom does not expect adult-sex material to be broadcast before midnight between 16 December and 2 January.

Well haven't seen this happen yet on any of the babe channels. Clearly the babe channels don't read the Broadcasting Code. Or this post is a load of jingle bells. laugh
Look, the upshot of all of this, is that when ofcom decided to move the goalposts it not only took the babe channels by surprise, but everyone else for that matter. However in my opinion i do believe the Babe channels have had a enough and i do believe with the potential showdown between Playboy TV and ofcom, and if what I've read is correct then i think some positive action concerning the babe channels will come to us sooner rather than later.
In my opinion i think 2012 will be a far more positive year for the babe channels than people think. For one i do think that the babe channels have had an absolute GUT FULL of all these pointless useless regulations and i do think behind the scenes there's a lot of talking going on, and i think the main reason is that the babe channels are getting concerned with the lack of callers and that equals to lack of income.
Ofcom will eventually fall, there's no doubt in my my mind, I'm still wandering if another private regulator will step in and challenge them? whether or not this will happen in 2012 is anyones guess. The fact of the matter is that since bangbabes shut down, things haven't been the same as we all no, thankfully Redlight central have really stepped up in its absence and the same can be said for some other current babe channels, yet if you asked the likes of redlight and others if they wish to put stronger content out, the answer would be a resounding yes.
To conclude i'm hoping that 2012 will be a far more positive year for the babe channels than 2011 lets hope that ofcom will collapse, and we will be able to enjoy our beloved babe channels as we used to once again Smile
