Thay can show people been shot to death, stabbed to death, punched and kicked to death on tv legally...Now these are all punishable in real life with a prison sentence for life usually..Bearing that in mind Ofcom say the most taboo thing on tv is female genatalia so imagine been slapped to death by a fanny lip,,in real life because its so taboo it would equate to 900 year prison sentence...If the female clit and labia minora is so harmful we should be aware that if your injured by one of these we have the right to go to court for massive compensation or get the women imprisoned..

The above seems childish well ofcom your in charge and your a pack of sexist children,,,watch out for them fanny lips they are more harmfull that machine guns and nuclear fallout...

When I mentioned about the 9pm watershed there response to me was that they don't believe children don't go straight to bed at that time!! In otherwords they are saying that the watershed really means nothing to them at all? I also mentioned about the farce concerning the classification of the adult channels being classed under the umbrella as shopping channels. The answer they gave me was not convincing at all to say the least.
You talk about double standards, when the clock strikes 9pm a woman can bare all for a medical programme, yet when it's for sexual pleasure the 9pm watershed doesn't mean the same thing!! What a load of Bollocks!! It's one rule for one programme and one rule for another it's a bloody joke!! These guys couldn't regulate bath water let alone programmesBig Laugh

I have no great argument about kids not going to bed on the dot of 9, but as an adult I expect to be able to watch grown up programming in the evening and not have to worry about children I have never met.

An important part of any legal system is that it should be knowable, yet Ofcom steadfastly refuse to say what is permitted when and apply double standards.

Channel 4 can get away with a few minutes after 9 if they give a warning. Five showed The Book of Eli yesterday (huge heap of shite) and 5 or 10 minutes in a mans arm was severed by a sharp knife - impitable behaviour - before about 5 bandits were hacked to death. The film started at 9. Film channels routinely show the strongest available horror and gore from 10pm with impunity (Hostel, Saw, Audition). Charlie Brooker had a sketch on the 10 OClock show where he said C**T many times, no problem.

This suggests a gentle phasing in of grown up material between 9 and 10, and after 10 anything goes. But Ofcom wont commit to this and the few guidelines there are - guidelines, not rules - prevent the babes from even using moderate sexual language until midnight.

So thats vague and unknowable rules, a transition of 1 hour or less for all TV except babe channels, a 3 hour transition of babe channels and restrictions evan after that.

No basis for a legal system.
Todays Broadcast Bulletin lists 1 complaint against Red Light (12/9) "Assessed Not Investigated", in other words thrown out at the first hurdle. Also Studio 66 (25/9). The list seems a lot shorter than in the past.

However Ofcom have started no less than 13 investigations, an unusually high number, including one against Storm (29/9) and a srtange one listed as being against "Various" channels on "various" dates - 4 Sport channels are listed, Northern Birds, SportxxxGirls, Essex Babes and LivexxxBabes. The vague nature suggests a general complaint about broadcasting practice instead of explicit content on specific dates and times. Odd.
I would love to know who is making these complaints? Kill Bill Vol1 (an awesome film btw) was shown on BBC2 over the weekend. Extremely violent yet uncut. Now if a babe channel showes the merest hint of vagina......whoa big problems.

just thought i would add that death in real life , a subject no one thought could be entertaining was exactly that when the bbc not so long back put a programme out filming the death of an old man with his daughter and wife by his bedside, ok after the watershed but the fact is that if such programmes would cause offence to even adults yet ofcom did nothing !
Some well thought out arguments there but lets not shit around the woods here, the main difference between all the programmes mentioned and the babe channels is a big one.

Being totally brutal about it all. The babe channels are here for one reason and for one reason alone. For masterbation purposes. They have no plot to them.

They are here to titalate and arouse us, only problem is that ofcom are telling them otherwise.

So at present we have a very fine balancing act. How exactly do the channels make their shows titalating and arousing without actually breaking any ofcom rules.

It's an impossible task and a total contradiction on what these channels are designed for in the first place. This might just explain the level of inconsitency at the moment.

Out of all the negatives to take out of 2012 the one positive I can offer is that this year we haven't witnessed any casualties.

A small victory but enough to give us hope going into 2013 with. Despite the fact I now cap some of the shows they are still not a patch on what they were a few years ago. It's more of a hobby for me and believe you me I am not going to lose my appetitate against fighting ofcom.

Let's keep this fight going, we need something similar to another petition on the go here.
One argument, a feeble one, is that nudity and sex is real but bank robberies, torture, death are drama, fake, and mainstream drama uses prothesis rather than real penises and vaginas. Mention the film Antichrist and someone will popup and say "Ah, thats not William Defoes dick, its a dildo". Tinto Brass is supposed to have used prothesis for his more explicit scenes.

Trouble is some films do contain real sex.*

Also some of the nasty stuff is real too, usually documentaries. I changed channel and suspect the camera cut away, but Ross Kemp Extreme recently showed two people in a trench covered with firewood and about to be burnt to death under "Village Justice".

I also never thought I would see a real live autopsy on television but Channel 4 showed some a few years ago. One of the "educational" insights used to justify the show was an illustration of what happens to the throat when people choke. It was simply medical porn.

* The BBFC use the phrase "Real Sex" in extended classification information for:
Inside Deep Throat
9 Songs
Destricted
The Essential Lovers Guide
THE EROTIC FILMS OF PETER DE ROME
Shortbus
BATALLA EN EL CIELO (Battle in Heaven)

GOTTER DER PEST - GODS OF THE PLAGUE
CALIGULA [All previous cuts waived]
Bedways
TAXI ZUM KLO - TAXI TO THE TOILETS [All previous cuts waived]
J'AI REVE SOUS L'EAU - I DREAMT UNDER THE WATER
PRINCESAS
LA VIE DE JESUS - THE LIFE OF JESUS
THE MODERN TANTRA - AN EROTIC WORKSHOP FOR LOVERS (yup, another sex film)
ANCIENT SECRETS OF SEXUAL ECSTACY

DOGTOOTH
L'EMPIRE DES SENS - IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES
I have to admit living in this country with the bloody ridiculas censorship laws is fucking embarrsssing. The fact we didn't get the 10PM to 11PM show of Eurotic TV on SKY last night just because some of the models decided to show their vagina, which wasn't even explicit BTW was a stark reminder that we have somehow got the bad end of the deal.

Try explaining ofcom to a bunch of Germans or Dutch people when you are over visiting their country and the first thing they do is piss themselves laughing. I mean isn't that exactly what nicam did earlier on in the year when ofcom complained to them about Babestation.

There responce was something along with the lines of yeah we know what you broadcast and it's hardly much to get overexcited about. To coin a famous phrase of this forum, hardly worth a wank Big Laugh

I'd imagine words such as what the fuck were used by those at nicam headquarters, just what the fuck are these stuck up Brits getting so hot under the collar about. Have they seen what Amsterdam is like, I mean the locals even Rate Sexysat TV as nothing more than mild titilation.

Only in the UK would channels that are clearly labelled as 18+ cause so much widespread offence which ofcom seem to think that they achieve, exactly why can somebody be offended by this type of material.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, just why is the vagina deemed more offensive than the breasts. I mean when you are chatting up a lady in the bar, what's the first thing you notice, that they might have a pussy or the shape of their tit's.

Ofcom have no logic to their reasoning Cool

Well, true but how is that less respectable than cage fighting or watching a dare devil jump the Grand Canyon or most action movies, or Twat Or No Twat? The last one has no plot, its just opening random boxes, there is no skill involved. Cage fighting is aabout seeing someone beaten to a pulp. To some extent people watch dare devils, Dirty Sanchez and Jackass to see people get injured or mutilated. And the roulette channels have no plot, other than loose money.

Good point. I will remember to have a good look at both next time I get a chance and see which I find more (or less) offensive.

The good thing is I can claim it is research.
Don't know if anyone has noticed but Sky's online offering NowTV has parental control to R18 level. Don't get excited, the content, quality and cost of the service has been piss poor to date.
