If it's any consolation I look awful in photos, because if anyone uses a flash on their cameras or phones they are so bright I automatically blink and ruin the shot AND if I look above the thing it looks like my eyes are closed as well, so I feel for you(as it were)

Chances are it's the LNB (the bit where the cables connect on the dish) that's gone. The trick with Sky is to tell them you'll cancel rather than pay the call out / repair charges and be prepared to go through with it. Most of the time they'll waive the fee or at least cut it to a reasonable level.

Be very wary of paying anything to "Sky Protect" they're a shower of bastards.

Yeah it sounds like a major dish problem. Oh no, the insurance goes through Satellite Assured Services I think they were farmed out to another company because Sky Protect as far as I am aware don't exist any more.
