You have to fast ahead of a blood test for diabetes? Interesting, as I'm getting to think I should also go for a test for the same thing... Mad thirsts, no energy, slow healing skin blisters... bladewave

Speaking as someone who has had type 2 diabetes for 6 years the way I found out was I was sent to Whittington Hospital by an on the ball GP for a glucose tolerance test. You go in, they do the finger prick test of blood then give you this ultra sweet drink which was ghastly. You then wait up to three hours then go back again and they take another sample and then you wait a week. I knew something was up when the surgery rang me three days later to come in - I also guessed I had it because I was close to 19stn. It hit me hard but I had to change my whole lifestyle, exercise and diet. I am now currently 15.2stn and as long as I keep my feet clean and take my tablets METFORMIN twice a day with food I am fine. One thing if you are found to have type 2 and prescribed that tablet it can have some pretty horrendous side effects but you'll soon get used to them. Tiredness during the day is another symptom. I wish you both luck, you can reverse it but it takes a lot of willpower.

Good luck with your treatment GreenMachine.
And to all those others who are having to have treatment for whatever illnessess etc they are struggling to cope with.
I watched my mom slowly die before she was 50 in the late '70s, so I do really sympathise with you all.

My mum has type 2 how I realise had it was no energy and getting tired really easily. Slow healing and biggest was headaches and passing out it was happening out doors and in doors. You get really thirsty all the time so drink like mad but you gotta go to the loo more often. Also I noticed i can’t eat as much but you also get really hungry. When I have to fast for blood tests with me I feel like crap and once it’s done I have to eat like mad to make up for it all bloody annoying.
I got take METFORMIN and the side effects with that is horrible when I have forgotten to take them along with the high blood pressure tablets you feel like shit. The tiredness symptoms are horrible i hate and I already have problems with knees and feet as it is.
I feel for you Kal-El. When I first started taking them I got the worst stomach pains I've ever had. One night I literally lost all colour in me, turning almost white and then felt cold. Luckily once your body gets used to them they will do what they are designed to do and help you lose weight and sooner or later the symptoms go. I also take blood pressure tablets-two each morning, plus ASTORVASTATIN at night. I find the metformin is best at lunch and supper. My mother also had type 2 and she helped me with it. As kelly says sometimes scratches and scrapes take time to heal but as long as you monitor it carefully and have clean feet you can carry on as normal. Cutting your weight is essential to type 2 but it is not always attributed to it.
I lost a lot of weight and drinking more water I still get the stomach pains once in a while but there random.
Got to the airport, waited for 3 hours only for plain to get cancelled due the the weather, So on my way home now, no fun weekend in Dublin for me Sad

^ In some cases diabetes can be controlled and reversed by diet alone.
