Nick Kyrgios beats Novak Djokovic to set up showdown with Federer at the Indian Wells tournament.

It's the second time this year that he's beaten Novak.

Both of today's singles finals at the Indian Wells Masters feature players of the same nationality.

It's an all-Russian women's final with Svetlana Kuznetsova against Elena Vesnina. I've followed Vesnina's progress all week and she looks to have had, on paper at least, the more difficult draw. She came through it relatively comfortably though including a straight sets dismantling of Kerber in round 4 and a three set win, albeit one-sided for two sets, against Venus in the quarter finals. Because I feel she's come through harder looking tests than Kuznetsova I'd back the younger Vesnina to take this one.

The men's final should be an all-Swiss blockbuster between Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka. After the way I saw Federer destroy Nadal I can't not back him for another Indian Wells title here. Stan's obviously got massive pedigree on hard courts though and he should be able to get a set at least, but Federer to nick it 2-1.

I admire Kuznetsova's consistency.
She is so tough as a match player.
She appears to me to be having another stellar season already.
The match against Vesnina is a tough call. I'm being a wimp and keeping my money in my pocket Tongue.
Novak Djokovic has announced his withdrawal from the Miami Masters starting at the end of this week. He joins Andy Murray on the sidelines meaning the world's top two players will both be absent due to injury.

Well I was right about Elena Vesnina. A hard-fought, gruelling 3 set win over Svetlana Kuznetsova in the Indian Wells final for her third career title. 6-7 (6-8), 7-5, 6-4 the final score.

I wasn't so right about Roger Federer winning 2-1. He's just defeated Stan Wawrinka in two straight sets - 6-4, 7-5. An incredible 90th career title for the Swiss and his first Indian Wells title for 5 years. I managed to cash out in time so have still made a healthy profit over this weekend.

As for Federer, he continues to roll back the years. I just get the feeling that he may be going for one last hurrah so to speak this year and just basically going all out for everything he can. I hope he doesn't retire this year - but I've seen these signs before in the game with other players over the years and no-one could blame him if he did decide to call it a day at the end of this year. He'd certainly go out in a blaze of glory.

Makes me feel kind of old, having watched his career over the last twenty years or so. Thanks Roger. Wink
