we lost to 2 teams that are above us in the fifa rankings so big deal and in those games we had more than a fighting chance

we got some good kids that need a little time to get used to international football can see us qualifying for euros with little or no trouble

how much I wonder San Marino, Slovenia, and the like are quaking in their boots to be facing us. Qualify for the Euros with little or no trouble, u having a laugh? On this form for me wouldn't even finish 3rd in our group. If there is any world cup we can win then I would say it would probably be tiddlywinks at this rate!!

Are you serious. A complete over reaction. Everyone knew England were not going to win the World Cup. What England didn't do was defend well-Cahill being the only decent defender we had and more importantly, we didn't take our chances when in front of goal. England were beaten by two very good goals from one of the best goalscorers in the world. If it was not for Suarez and Cavani, England would have come away from this game with at least a draw. The move that led to Rooneys goal was as good as any team has produced in this tournament.

If there was little or no expectation in the country a year ago, why didn't the press reflect that expectation then instead of giving us the big build up to our first game like they did? Why didn't they say "look let's just enjoy a good game of football no matter what the result"? if everyone knew we weren't going to win the world cup then bytor, why the heck did we bother going and make fans waste hard earned money in trying to win something that we'll never win again. Why don't we just forget about the world cup because we need to wake up and realise that we ain't bloody good enough? our football is to easy a game to play against for any team god help us if we get beaten by San Marino or Slovenia because we look no better than their standard at the moment.

Barzil brazil brazil, get over it, we are talking about england, not brazil... You are obsessed with anything i say..
I think Brazil are just warming up and once they are in full gear no team can touch them
Stats from the game were good just the result again we had more possesion 62% to 38% had more shots than them 13 to there 10 more on target 8 to there 6 pass completion rate of 78% to there's of 58%

we were moaning in 2010 that we couldnt play with the ball but the last 2 games have shown we can its just the finishing that has let us down what we need is a lineker or a shearer someone to really take the chances we create but thats whats been lacking since michael owen.

just need to get better defence hopefully players like stones and flannagen luke shaw will develop we need to get some really young centrebacks and develop them Cahill and Jagelka did ok apart from that one slip mistakes will always happen

that said if Italy do us a favour tonight and by beating uruguay
I don't think Italy will do us any favours either tonight or when they play Uruguay.
of course they will. they need to win tonight to qualify and will want to win and go for the 9 points for momentum
People seem to forget that even if Italy win, we need to beat Costa Rica. And that wont happen

Because we were good enough to qualify. That doesn't mean we should expect the team to win the whole tournament. Any team is only as good as the talent available at the time. We cant all be the best and only one team can lift the cup as winners so all the other teams will be losers too. Perhaps they shouldn't bother either then? There were some good points from England's performances and some areas that require much improvement but both games have been down to opponents clinical finishing just as much as poor defending.

Possession isnt everything just look at Barcelona last season they dominated 70%+ possession and still manage to lose a game. England need to find a winger or a left footer or some sort because there are no width, they are always cutting in

^This. I totally agree with all of this.

The main problem with the expectation is that it makes no sense. England fans and English people as a general rule, spend 1 year and 11 months out of every 2 years believing wholeheartedly that their national team are utterly useless. Then for one month while a World Cup or Euro is on, and perhaps the week leading up to it, all of a sudden we have a chance!?

The funny thing is, they're wrong in both cases.

Most football fans over here would put club before country. They don't care about the national team as long as their club side has foreign superstars crowding the starting lineup and youth system, bringing them success today. 'Who cares about England?' they say. Well... THEY do! When it's too late.

I'm the opposite. I would gladly watch my club team vanish into complete oblivion if it meant England would win just one World Cup or Euro. Just one. In my lifetime. It's unlikely because since my first experience watching football (Italia 90), not counting a blip in Euro 96, the England team have only gotten worse.

This was the first time we have improved. And we have nothing to show for it. That's football. That's life.
