yeah i suppose finishing 3rd is better than finishing 2nd as i don't remember holland celebrating when they finished as runner's up in 2010, tomorrow the losers will be crying not celebrating despite finishing 2nd, what next have a 3rd place playoff for the champions league, fa cup, Carling cup, JPT Trophy, FA trophy
better still, make a 5th place playoff with the losing quarter-finalists taking part

Why not have Playoff finals for the 4th Champions League Spot between teams 4 - 8 like do in the other leagues Wink i mean the championship and leagues 1 and 2 loser gets to play in the Eufa with all the problems that come with that lol

3rd place play off for the FA Cup? Probably could work but when would you play it & would you have that at Wembley the week before or something, or at a neutral venue earlier in the week?

I would agree but then you would lose 1 place for the Europa league wouldn't you?

You mean 4-7 not 4-8.

It has been discussed by the Premier League (after one club proposed it) but they rejected the idea by a vote of 19 to 1.

Take heart, HannahsPet... If the Premier League rejected it by a vote of 19 to 1, then it must be a good idea!
Wouldn't be a good idea, because in some cases the gap between 4th-7th can be 15+ points. Wouldn't be fair
I think you could possibly use the points difference as a seeding rating couldn't you?
Shall I get the ball rolling on predictions for the final?

I think that after the semis, Germany are coming in with all of the pressure on them and Argentina have the benefit of being the underdogs.

Argentina will "park the bus" and wait for a moment of magic from Messi or penalties -- whichever comes first. Either way, in a final insult to the poor Brazilians (no offense, Fernandez), Argentina will walk off with the Cup.

...or...

It could go completely the other way.
I would like to go for a Germany win at a canter 3-0 and I hope Howard Webb isn't the referee!! Tongue
