The referee is Nicola Rizzoli of Italy.

You can get 25/1 on that.

The main reason given for rejection of the idea was time constraints within the football calendar, because a club involved in a play-off for 4th spot could possibly be also involved in the FA Cup and Champions League.

better still, make a 5th place playoff with the losing quarter-finalists taking part
3rd place play off for the FA Cup? Probably could work but when would you play it & would you have that at Wembley the week before or something, or at a neutral venue earlier in the week?

Completely disagree here, whats the point in having a playoff game to win nothing? Going into the game knowing you are playing to say "we failed"

These games should all be scrapped
I thought the winners got bronze medals and it was just the losers who got nothing?
who wants a bronze medal?

You are right Mellow, bronze medals were awarded to the Netherlands players.

The team that comes third.
Robin van Persie apparently immediately gave his medal to the Dutch supporter with the uniform and peaked cap, while Tim Krul proudly tweeted a picture of his, which won't sway arguments one way or the other about whether it's worth it. Several sports do go to 7th and 8th play-offs but football isn't as concerned with setting rankings for the year or years ahead. FIFA prefer to make it up as they go along!Tongue

Please.

If Brazil had won last night's 3rd place play-off you would have been crowing about your bronze medal. Don't deny it - you know I'm right. TongueWink
