I just meant hoddle was saying no players were making runs or that the england players are not taking any risks..
gotta admit that was pretty shit tonight, but italy only drew with Luxenbourg the other day
You know what?

I thought tonight was ok! I mean, how this team will fare against stronger opposition remains to be seen. But still, it seemed as though we have learned to pass the ball to eachother, and our closing down of the opposition was a bit more urgent.

Pretty basic stuff really but it's more than I've been able to say about an England team for at least 10 years.

That's a team playing to England's strengths, Glen Hoddle is saying pretty much the same as us on here... he should be your manager, not Hodgeson, he won't progress this team at all...

Hoddle was England Manager I think after Euro 96 and look where he got us!! His punditry is worse than his managing.

do you really think our passing game will win us the World Cup? If that's the team against Italy, Pirlo will find it easy to run through our midfield and straight past our defence. We'll be behind by probably 2 goals before halftime and judging on the warm up games, I saw little to get really excited about.

he got into the 2nd round of France 98 where we lost to penalties to Argentina it was that match that beckham got sent off for kicking out at diego simeone

he was the one who put Beckham and a very young michael owen into the team and he had the cojones to drop Gazza at that world cup

and his 60% win rate as england manager has only been bettered by 1 man Sir Alf Ramsey

actually hoddle has a point but i would play Milner along with Gerrard as defensive midfielders for 60 mins then bring on Sterling and barclay just give them one aim run at a tiring italian defence thats what he did in 98 with owen to great effect

Oh my god. Ok. This is where I invite you to find any point in my previous post where I said we would win the World Cup.

Best of luck Wink
For someone who doesn't give England much chance in the coming finals I have to say I think there were some positives from last night. Welbeck had a decent game, running around, tackling and making some good passes. Sadly he does lack judgement in front of goal, passing when he should shoot and vice versa. Henderson must surely have guaranteed a starting place and I would prefer to see Barkley start ahead of Rooney who has been out of form for months. (won't happen of course but Rooney is a complacent player who would benefit from having to fight for his place). A fit again Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sterling should give us some telling movement and Sturridge will always get into scoring situations. Defence was OK though I can see panic arriving when faced with better quality opposition. Johnson especially is a big chink in the armour. Anyway good luck to them and hope they do themselves proud in the coming weeks.
Decidedly mixed blessings watching all these official FIFA films on the BBC at weekends. I'm seeing most of them for the first time, or not in the case of the 1974 effort that was on today. I tuned in after about 20 minutes and West Germany were already reaching the final, which duly took up most of the rest of the running time. I sometimes wonder what my adult 1970's hair would have looked like - plenty of inspiration to be found in this! Tongue
