It makes it tough to even get close to the podium but I know he'd bust a gut to get there I bet if the 30 place meant him starting from the car park he'd probably work just as hard!!
In the end Hamilton only did enough to qualify in 21st place (obviously in the knowledge that he had a penalty) , so his 55 place
grid penalty has only resulted in him moving back ONE place. Makes a mockery of the system.
In a past season, unused penalty places were carried over to the next race, but 55 places is ridiculous when the grid only has 22 cars.
It's like when american courts sentence crims to 450 years in prison, its only for show.
Maybe they could introduce weight penalties like in touring cars or limit the engine's horsepower to disadvantage them, or simply be more realistic with the size of the grid penalty.
how many of Hamliton's penalty places were unused before Belgium? maybe many would argue docking points would be a better way for both team and driver
A grid penalty plus starting from the pit lane with a time penalty to cover the unused grid places might be worth a try
