(03-07-2012 16:13 )Charlemagne Wrote: [ -> ]Best wishes go out to Marussia F1 test driver Maria de Villota who has been seriously injuried whilst driving a MR-01 car at Duxford airfield today.

Very nasty. The car went under the back of a truck which had its tail lift down.

Latest reports from the team look more positive. She's conscious & stable but no details on the extent of her injuries as yet.

Fingers crossed for her.
bit of sad news today. maria has had surgery on her serious injuries she suffered which started yesterday afternoon and finished this morning and unfortunately she's lost her right eye

very unlikely she'll ever race again

she wont be able to anyway her depth perception has gone which makes judging distances to back of cars, braking zones, turning points alot harder. certianly not in the real thing but on the simulator testing updates inbetween races.

if she was weaing a helmet and only lost an eye it shows are effective these helmets, massa could have been killed when that bit car struck him.

Lord Paul Drayson is blind in one eye and races GT cars and has raced at Le Mans, however his condition is something he has had from birth and a special exception was made for that reason.

As for Massa, he was very lucky. Had the spring hit him an inch lower, it would have gone straight through his visor, which will always be a weak point. Looking at the photos of the accident at Duxford, i suspect the tail lift was at visor height, hence the eye and facial injuries.
Marussia have announced at the F1 Grand Prix that Maria de Villota is now able to sit up and talk to her family..

And well done to Fernando Alonso who has dedicated his British Grand Prix pole position to Maria de Villota.
webber won it. i am liking the bbc's coverage of f1 this year, gary anderson is a gem of a find explaining the technical side of f1, lee mckenzie becoming the 1st female lead peresenter of f1 when jake humphry was at the euros.
I'm happy with that result. If a British Driver doesn't win then Mark Webber will do for me. Particularly if he beats Alonso to do it Big Grin

bbc team have improve again this year, ben edwards is doing a bette job than martin bundle, lee mckenzie is better than ted kravitz also she capble of standing in for jake humphry when jake is at the olympics or presenting the football and gary anderson has added that extra something that the bbc were missing.

i was dreading the bbc coverage with only 10 live races and the rest on extended highlights but so far the bbc have managed to keep up with the unfolding story of this season. could this be another awarding year for bbc f1?
