He is allegedly the rejuvenated Doctor after Tennant and before Smith. He is a version of the Doctor but not the Doctor. Think that sounds suitably confusing. This Doctor is supposedly responsible for the Time War. If memory serves me right it was mentioned in the Eccleston era that the Doctor started the time war.

also ended it with the destruction of both time lords and daleks. the time war took place between the 1996 tv movie with paul mcgann and eccleston's dr (2005).

I wouldn't know what went on outside of the tv series. I was just relaying information I was given on the 50th episode. I may not be 100% accurate but I seem to recall that the lone dalek in the Eccleston series mentioned that the Doctor was responsible for the time war.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it does say that the Doctor caused the Time War. I couldn't find the clip though Rolleyes

BBC confirms Matt Smith is to leave Dr Who,he will regenerate in the Christmas special
Well, I can't say that his tenure has been show stopping. No fault of Matt Smith's - he is a good actor. For me the writing has been overall poor and he's had some pretty shite stories to work with.

Moffatt said today that 'the search starts now' for the new Doctor but they must have someone in mind, maybe even had someone else virtually cast.
I hear damien lewis is favourite and david tennant rumoured to return has the doctor but i would like to see an older one, i would like to be sean pretwee to be the doctor since his father was the 3rd doctor.
I think Sean Pertwee is a terrible actor in everything I've had the misfortune to see him in.

Good luck to Matt, it's maybe going to reflect better on him when someone else is put in the same position with the same sorts of scripts and silliness going on.
I said back on 27th March that he would be leaving in the Christmas episode so not much of a surprise. Can't say I'm overly bothered though he is a decent actor and could have made a great Doctor if he had been given quality storylines to work with. I wish Moffat would leave with him, he said a while ago that he was exploring the possibility of a female Doctor as a future incarnation. Whilst being a firm advocate of equality I really hope this is not the case.

If there is a Doctor Who God, hear my prayer. Please do not allow Steven Moffatt to do this. bladewave

Thanks in anticipation. Amen. Wink
^^^ or how about something goes wrong with the regeneration, and we end up with two Doctors, giving plenty of opportunity for a lucrative spin-off Big Grin

Shouldn't laugh really, given the way it's going, anything is possible!
Daily Star is reporting that Michael Jacksons daughter is going to be the new Doctor Who. Just checking to make sure my calendar is not stuck on April 1st. It will be the final death knell for the show if true. Moffats remit has to be to kill the show off once and for all.bladewave
