Smile Thanks to all for posts - I've taken a decision not to watch it anymore, but it's still nice to hear about it it in a second hand way - feels a bit like receiving news of a distant (ailing?) elderly relative.
#worseandworse
I liked the Viking episode - some great sets and acting and a hint back to Peter Capaldi in his first DW vist - Although Horned Helmets I thought had been proven to be a myth.
I see another (the final?) classic DVD is finally being released - Patrick Troughton "The Underwater Menace".

Or "Attack of the Fish People" as one of the New Who characters would probably remark in a suitably post-modern ironic way with a wink to the audience.

Probably safe to say that even with the "unseen" recovered episode, it's still probably not the most highly regarded or eagerly awaited story ( "Nuzing in de vurld can stop me now !" Mwah-hah-hah) and it appears there's no animated reconstructions of the missing episodes included - just still photos with audio.

But I will probably buy it nevertheless - there's a little gap waiting for it in the IKEA bookshelves amongst the rather sparse Troughton section of my collection*, it'll hopefully just stop the other DVDs tilting over to the side.
And it doesn't look like there's going to be any others unearthed and released any time soon....

Wink * Yes, obviously they're arranged in chronological order (what possible other way could you put them laugh ) from "The Beginning" right through to "Caves of Androzani" - I'm afraid I drew the line at Colin Baker and Slyvester McCoy**, despite knowing this would mean excluding all but two of Nicola Bryant's oeuvre. (Is that what we're calling them now, you smirk) Wink

** Yes, I know "Revenge of The Cybermen" was criminally bundled with "Silver Nemesis" - but the latter was easily given away.
Has somebody who's first doctor was John Pertwee and finnished watching it when the vile Davidson took over, I can remember when doctor who was thought no more off than kids tv one a saturday night after the football results, noted for poor writing, poor acting and sets.

No idea what nostalgia kick people on here are on but it was never oscar winning material.

Writing, sets, costumes. acting, special effects are all vastly better now then ever they were when I was young.

Having good doctors back then doesn't equate with it being better.

The writing bloody well isn't better these days, as last night showed! Come to think, the acting isn't better, either.

But thanks for playing! laugh

I have to agree the amount of classic actors that appeared on the old DW was endless - ok Beryl Reid and Ken Dodd probably aren't in that list.

The good thing about last night's episode - The costumes and the mention of the Terileptils from one of my favourite episodes The Visitation.
Beryl Reid really was a proper actress, which is more than can ever be said for Rufus Hound.

She was miss-cast as the Starship Captain.

New who seems to like having comedy actors involved re Rufus.

The oracle speaks. The final say in all things doctor.

Old doctor whos all over acted and exaggerated, thats what you must think good acting is. Christopher Eccleston vs Sylvester Macoy.
