I always thought both Amy & Rose have been the doctor's best companions....
I thought Michelle Ryan (Lady Christina de Souza) was a good one off companion in Planet of the Dead and would have made a good regular companion.
The more I see clips of the Christmas special the more I despair. What next Dr Who and the 3 Bears? The Dr and his new assistant Goldie Lox battle an alien porridge life form. Damn could be giving Moffat ideas here bladewave
As if Moffat would need any new ideas! I only wish more of the old monsters made a return to keep things fresh and exciting

Smile Similarly I thought "Rosita" (?not sure about spelling?) in the Tennant Christmas special with the "Next Doctor" and Victorian "Cyber-King" was good, though she didn't get to do too much other than a bit of comic relief.

( Wink Though I also wouldn't have said no to Dervla Kirwan as a regular companion, but she was the villain in that episode)

Mixed views on that one - they tend to misuse old monsters imo.
Also, unless they can use old monsters in a fresh way it just runs the risk of getting repetitive.
The 80s over-used Cybermen imo after their success in Earthshock and they just got less and less menacing.
And arguably they've still yet to create many really iconic new one-off or recurring villains/monsters in the 2000s reboot in the same way that they did in the 60s and 70s ?
I would say possibly Terreleptils from the 80s is one of the few originals from that era that might be due another outing, they never came back, and from New Who the Weeping Angels are one of the few that stand out for me. The Ood were also quite good in their first outing I thought.

Imo, like in the 70s Tom Baker stories, some of the best villains/monsters in the reboot have been possessed/altered humans - eg. the Waters of Mars "zombies" and things like that.
In that vein the Mara could be also be concept that could be reused today I reckon ?
The initial reworking of the cybermen in the Tennant era with the whole parallel universe alternative origins story also worked reasonably well imo as a way to reintroduce them in 21st century series - I was less keen on them fighting Daleks etc , that seemed a bit of a "fan-boy" dream scenario with an eye to computer game spin-offs etc.
I didn't see their appearances in final Smith or Capaldi stories.

The "new Dalek paradigm" in Matt Smith's era just looked and sounded terrible imo : looked like they were wearing the Dalek equivalent of Victorian style "bustles" laugh : the W.W.II variety in that episode looked better imo !
And don't get me started on comedy Sontarans and Silurians.Rolleyes
Didn't see the Ice Warriors rebooted so can't comment on those.
The Zygons looked reasonably scary on their return, but were overshadowed in an episode that probably didn't really need them imo. Smile
The Mara really was scary especially the possession of a companion, I don't think they've done that in New Who.

The Autons should make a come back - seen in the first episode and one of the list of monsters in The Pandorica opens - as long as we keep them away from bins!
I was thinking more along the lines of the sea Devils and may be a return to Peladon would make a good story too...

Hell, yeah!!! I can just imagine how she'd react to Tardis phone ringing eekBig GrinBig GrinBig Grin

I think my favorite companion was Amy Pond. I always thought she looked alot like Stevie Lou, which probably helped Tongue
return to Peladon would make a good story too...

I'd love to see the monster from Peladon in CGI and a better Alpha Centuri Ambassador - Didn't Patrick Troughton's son play the king, they could go back and have him play the same role but now older.
