Ronnie O'Sullivan leads Barry Hawkins 6-2 after their opening session.
At 2-2 Hawkins missed a key red when in the balls, O'Sullivan made a frame winning contribution and the balls never forgave Hawkins for that one miss. He got a fearful bad contact on frame 6 and lost all four frames after the mid session interval. Ronnie being the imposing frontrunner he is has already set off like a train and could now run riot and win with a session to spare. That missed red in frame 5 was one where I had half an inkling he may miss and suffer long term consequences. For me that was a potential turning point in the match from which he may not recover.
Robertson and Selby commence battle at 7pm in a match that is likely to be very close and that could go deep into a final session on Saturday night.
If Ronnie does win with a session to spare he will have the whole of Saturday off while his opponent will have had to scrap his way into the final on Saturday night giving them much less recovery time prior to the final.
The consequence could be another quick start for O'Sullivan and a deficit that is irrecoverable in the final.
Anyway time will tell.
Looks like Selby & Robertson will be VFM all the way to a deciding frame or thereabouts Smile
Mark Selby leads Neil Robertson 5-3 after a tense opening session.
The Australian won two tactical frames after losing the opener before Selby produced a 133 clearance to level at 2-2.
The Leicester man surged into a 5-2 lead before Robertson finished the evening with his 101st season century to reduce his arrears to 2 frames overnight.
Hawkins managed a small revival after losing the first 4 frames this morning, but still trails 11-5. He must win 3 frames tonight to take the match into a 4th session tomorrow. And at least about 6 to stand any chance of winning the match.
Looked like a rout when Ronnie went 10-2 up. Let's hope Hawkins brings the form from the second 4 frames of the morning session to tonights session
A typically close, tense, nerve shredder of a second session between Selby and Robertson saw the eight frames shared.
Robertson won the first two frames but Selby responded by winning the next two and edged away for a three frame lead at 9-6. So to the last frame of the session where Selby got in first but missed a black off its spot with frame at his mercy to let the Australian in for a clinical 61 clearance to the pink to leave the match poised at 9-7 to Selby.
The Leicester man may have cause to rue that frame once the match ends and it now looks like a close finish is likely tomorrow evening.
Ronnie resumes against Hawkins in just under an hour and no doubt will be keen to finish the match with a session to spare giving him a day off tomorrow while the other semi finalists battle it out for the other final place.
Ronnie O'Sullivan is through to his third World Final in a row after completing a 17-7 win over Barry Hawkins with a session to spare. The first four frames of tonights session were shared but then the virtuoso streak in O'Sullivan came to the fore with some magical play in sealing the final four frames for victory.
He will now have a full day off tomorrow while Selby and Robertson fight it out in the other semi tomorrow.
A sixth world title beckons if Ronnie can emerge victorious in the Crucible showpiece.
Just realised that the snooker on this afternoon on BBC1 doesn't actually have any snooker on it.
Robertson 12-12 Selby after 3 sessions.
Late night drama at the Crucible beckons.
