Cook will be the new captain. He's already the one day captain.

Yes he was the captain yesterday...
He was out for 0... And the team lost by 80 runs.
Reports suggest that Strauss with be announcing not only standing down as England Test captain, but also retiring from cricket altogether.

Your correct Boomer, Strauss has retired from all forms of the game..
Amazing captain, lead the team to it's most successful period in a long time.

21 centuries, 50 tests as captain, 100 test. Quality, class player. A massive hole at the top of the test order that needs to be filled, but by who?
Many are suggesting maybe moving Trott up to open, but it has taken a long time to find a sucessful No.3 so England will be reluctant. If Strauss had carried on for 18mnths after Ashes 2013-14 I would say Joe Root.He could do with another year but he's class & wont let us down in tough challenges,India away & Australia back 2 back.Selfishly I'd sooner he'd help my county Yorkshire back into Div 1.

But Strauss says he no longer scores enough runs, so is it really a massive hole?
Vaughn stopped making so many runs as well, although he was still a good captain. Seems to be a bit of a curse.

I think Joe Root will be the one to make the step up. He could be our new opening batsmen for years to come.

He's been an established opener for England for 7 years. Of course it's a big hole to replace! Yes he may not have scored that many runs lately, but he, on his day, is unplayable. Who are England gonna find that will be in that mold. With the Ashes coming up, they can't afford to replace him with a genuine liability.

You could argue that Strauss was a liability these days, but he has scored plenty at this level, need someone to match that in the future, but is there anyone?

I heard they may move Bell into the opening position
Bell is one of those players who if only he was more consistent would be one of the best, of not the best in the world. He has at times pulled us out of a hole, then in the next innings you might see him go for 4 or something. A real talent though.
