Only one point separates the top 4 in Group A in the Men's hockey with one match to play. Australia and GB are on 8 points, Pakistan & Spain on 7.
Australia play Pakistan and GB play Spain so Oz and GB only need a point to qualify but defeat would put either out. Likewise, only a win is good enough for Pakistan and Spain.
Unless there is some strange mathematical upset in the other group, the group winners will play Germany in the semis, the runners up will play The Netherlands.
The GB Women need a draw against The Netherlands (who have already qualified) in their last game, but defeat would probably eliminate them and let China through.
The other women's group is wide open with Argentina, NZ and Australia all on 9 points but Germany on 6 could also still qualify.
One interesting point is that unlike in the football tournaments the final games in the hockey do not kick off at the same time, so the teams in the later games will know exactly what they need to do.
In the Men's tournament it won't matter, as only a win is good enough for Spain no matter what happens elsewhere, but in the Women's if Germany beat New Zealand, Australia & Argentina will go into the last game against each other knowing that a draw would put them both of them through but a win for either will put the other out.
Women's last games today, Men's tomorrow.
