Heptathlon update:

SHOTPUT.
Thiam of Belgium throws 14.91m and takes the overall lead.
Ennis Hill: 13.86m. Ok but not great.
KJT: 11.68m - Oh dear. Throwing events her weak point.

200m:
Thiam miles off the pace. Over 25 seconds.
KJT: 23.27 seconds (bit below par)
Ennis Hill: 23.49 seconds (bit below par)

Ennis-Hill leads overnight by 72 points over Thiam and by 100 over KJT. However if KJT does a huge long jump PB then Gold is within her grasp.

On day two KJT may gain on Ennis-Hill in the Long Jump but almost certainly concede ground on the Javelin.
Then it will be the 800m where their PBs are similar.

Brianne Theisen-Eaton of Canada could still be a factor and cannot be discounted.
As for Thiam, her PB for Long Jump is below that of both Brits.
Her Javelin is incredibly strong.
But her 800m is poor.

All in all Jess should feel reasonably content with the current state of play.

Long Jump:
So Greg Rutherford enters the arena to qualify for the Long Jump final. He has 3 jumps to do so.
First jump: Oops. Foul jump Blush.
Second Jump: Oh no. Another foul jump Surprised.
One attempt left............... 7.90m.
Qualifies.............but it was only just enoughShy.

Gawd blimey that was too close for comfort Greg Surprised.

The swimming commentator Andy Jameson said a few hours ago that "wouldn't it be wonderful if a black lady won the 100m freestyle". That was on the right-on, politically correct, left-liberal BBC so I now know that it isn't racist to express a preference for athletes of a particular skin colour.

a white woman has won 10,000 metres before. the swimmer is in question is a black american woman there has never been a black american swimmer won gold thought would be nice to have a black american woman win after all the crap they have been thru

the fact that 70% of african american kid cant even swim is an indictment to the system and the history of segragation

the fact that in the segregation era if a black person had been in a pool then it was drained.

in fact was a myth that said black people couldnt swim because they were less bouyant than white people seriously couldnt make shite like that up Tongue Tongue Tongue

All the crap they have been thru? Millions of black people have it tough but Simone Manuel, the woman Jameson was patronising, isn't one of them. She's an upper middle class girl who is a student at Stanford, an elite Private University.
Personally I like to root for the underdog or people who have overcome adversity, whatever their skin colour.
