Given the costs involved and the infrastructure needed, there's no more than seven or eight countries that could mount a serious bid nowadays (there's no way that the 1952 hosts Helsinki, for instance, could ever stage the games again).

So, it's not impossible that we'll all meet up again in 2040 or 2044!

You don't have to watch football if you don't like it. It's not compulsory.

That just got me thinking. the cities bidding for the 2020 Olympics are Istanbul, Tokyo and Madrid
i was very sceptical of the olympics, mainly due to the extreme cost BUT have loved it all from the opening ceremony onwards.
So many great inspirational and emotional moments. every athlete i've seen has been so genuine and likeable and worked so hard. it makes such a change from the celebrity/reality tv/footballer/tabloid culture.

its hard to pick one favourite moment but one of mine has to be Jade Jones reaction to winning the taekwondo

This is why I'm proud to say I support Aldershot Town. Yes the athletes on show have been world class and full credit to them. They've shown guts, desire and excellent ability within their respective fields. It's been an absolute pleasure to watch and has made me dislike the whole product of the "Premier Greed" ten fold.
Thankfully I get to watch players who graft for the right to wear the shirt and put in the effort on a tiny fraction of the wages compared to these egotistical twats.

Anyway, the Olympics has been superb and I've enjoyed every minute. Well done to everyone involved from athletes to volunteers to organisers to supporters. It's been an immense couple of weeks Cool
This closing ceremony is just plain embarressing.
Greg Rutherford's surprise long-jump win, Mo Farah winning the 5,000m...but Gemma Gibbons in the judo was my moment. Not because of the way she overcame personal tragedy and struggles, or for her look up to her mum in heaven, but because going into the olympics she was ranked 42 in the world yet won the silver.

There were a host of other GB athletes who ran or swam personal bests, or reached finals that they could only have dreamed of.
