Watching the Marathon yesterday I thought Rupp showed how well he has transitioned from track to road. I know Mo has been trying out the London Marathon a bit now but I do hope next year he can show he is a serious marathon runner and I agree without Bolt and Farah it will feel like going back 15 years but certainly I do think the African dominance at Olympic marathon will not be broken for a while yet Marah has broken it at 5 & 10,00m but I don't know if there is any one who is capable of picking up where he left off at those distances from possibly Europe at challenging the Africans at those distances. And I do believe that once Mo gets the marathon judged right he can dominate it like he did on the track.
I agree with the comments on here regarding the golf. Thinking of the football competition and the success of rugby 7s, perhaps getting rid of the 11 aside game and introducing a six aside competition on a smaller pitch would be a way forward. You could then keep the group format, but because the matches would be shorter you could play the competition over a shorter time frame.

Always said swimming should be streamlined or at least put in some restriction on the number of races a competitor can enter so that one person doesn't dominate in the way of Spitz in the past and Phelps. Apart from gymnastics, no other sport is really set up for competitors to win 5 or more golds at one games.

I would agree that maybe a six a or seven a side football tournament would be far easier, but many may argue that then it would not be true for any nation that won it to say they were Olympics soccer champions.
With regards to swimming I guess many feel that the best swimmers in any team shouldn't be allowed to dominate like both Phelps and Spitz did The only way that will happen is that they are limited to their best event
only and one relay at their best distance. I think basketball should never have allowed pro basketball players to compete, to me that dilutes the strength of the competition and I think boxing really needs
to be shaken up. I think some of the decisions in boxing at these games have been god awful there are times when I though "What fight are they watching?" I felt Joyce was robbed last night!!
But then Yoka had a game plan and stuck to it. I feel there should be a re match and Yoka agrees to put that medal on the line..
What a rematch that would be!! I remember Khan did a one off fight with the Cuban who beat him when he won silver.
so what were your highs and lows of Rio 2016 and which sports you feel should cut or streamlined from Tokyo 2020? That is if you were part the committee for a successful bid and the IOC told you personally to streamline the games to save money?

Well American audiences didn't prevent the IOC from dropping baseball from the last 2 Olympics.
the reason its back is because its Japans national sport and is the reason i dont give a toss about the olympics but thats my opinion
I think Tokyo have brought I back it's one of their national sports I believe Just glad Sumo wrestling isn't included - don't think we'd have anyone big enough for it!!

Your question doesn't make any sense. The IOC decide what sports are included in the Olympics, not the host city. Besides, the sports to be included in the 2020 games have already been decided (and there will be 33 sports in Tokyo, compared to the 28 in this Olympics).
I know it is not the thread to post it but I'll post it anyway I have to say that Jess has finally collected another gold!! This time, the 2011 world Athletics championship gold after the original Winner Chernova of Russia has had her results annulled for doping and I say about time too!!
Russia faces expulsion from Olympics in Tokyo next year after allegations over its anti doping data has been tampered with.

I would fear any expulsion will probably come too late for the World Athletics championships starting this week but any Russian victories should be taken with a pinch of salt and it depends if IAAF will move quickly enough to allow individual Russian athletes compete as individuals or under the Russian flag but this has been a long running issue.
