They already are. The ICC have been granted recognition by the IOC, but whether they make a bid for inclusion in the 2020 games is another matter. It's already too late for 2016. There are various problems with cricket being in the Olympics, such as the cricket calendar already being very crowded. West Indies could not take part of course, except as their constituent countries. England/GB might not be keen as it would fall in the middle of the English season. But if the ICC want it an Olympic T20 tournament is a definite possibility. India and Australia are known to be keen, but it would need general enthusiasm from the ICC as a whole. Some people are asking how it would affect the T20 world cup?

I think you would find the individual WI countries would be keen to compete in their own right as Trinidad are desperate to break away from the WI as they think they could do better. Wales and Scotland play First class Cricket under the England banner anyway so a Team GB cricket would be ok.

That isn't the issue. It's whether the ECB would allocate time for the Olympics when it would likely fall in the middle of the English season.
