so we could fight the Spanish next?
The basis of the Falklands being British:

That self determination is a universal right enshrined in UN charter, and applies in the case of the Falkland Islanders.[88][89]
That the 2013 referendum, in which 99.8% of Falklands voters voted to remain a British Overseas Territory on a 92% turnout, was an exercise in self-determination that "demonstrated beyond all doubt" the islanders' views on the dispute; and that the result should be respected by all other countries including Argentina.[90][91][92]
That Britain both claimed and settled the islands in 1765 before Argentina existed.[81]
That the 1771 Anglo-Spanish agreement signed preserved the claims of both Spain and Britain, not Spain alone.[27]
That Britain abandoned its settlement in 1774 due to economic pressures, but left a plaque behind proving sovereignty was not relinquished.[81]
That the Nootka Sound Convention only stipulated against further establishments and did not affect existing claims to sovereignty.[81]
That uti possidetis juris "is not a universally accepted principle of international law" and Argentina could not inherit the islands upon independence anyway as Spain did not have De facto control since 1811.[93]
That Argentina's attempts to colonise the islands were ineffectual and there was no indigenous or settled population before British settlement.[89]
That in 1833 an Argentine garrison was expelled but the civilian residents were encouraged to stay.[27]
That the islands have been continuously and peacefully occupied by the UK since 1833, with the exception of "2 months of illegal occupation" by Argentina.[89]
That the Arana-Southern Treaty of 1850 (the 'Convention of Settlement'), ended all possible claims by Argentina on the Falkland Islands.[27][94]
That Argentine leaders indicated in the 1860s that there was no dispute between Argentina and Britain, and that Argentine maps printed between 1850 and 1884 did not show the islands as part of Argentina.[27]
That the UN Special Committee on Decolonization resolutions calling for negotiations "are flawed because they make no reference to the Islanders' right to choose their own future".[89]
The European Union Treaty of Lisbon ratifies that the Falkland Islands belong to Britain.[86
Seem BBC are trying to Bribe Hammond and May back to BBC and top gear with a 4.6 million deal each
I notice BBC3 are already repeating the final series. I do think they might have done well to quit with the Burma special, or even just before it.
Of course, if they'd gone to Brazil instead, they'd have got a whole series of material, and offended nobody Wink When was the last time Brazil got offended by anyone? It's Brazil! About as unshockable as you can get.

But then all the jokes and registration plates wouldn't have worked or the increase in viewing figures........
They'd have found other things to joke about in Brazil. It is Brazil after all Wink And they could have still mentioned Argentina stuff in an ironic way ("we're here because the Argentines can't take a joke, and wouldn't let us film there...") if they so chose.

We're announcing today that Chris Evans has signed a three-year deal to lead an all-new Top Gear line-up.
Chris Evans says: "I’m thrilled, Top Gear is my favourite programme of all time. Created by a host of brilliant minds who love cars and understand how to make the massively complicated come across as fun, devil-may-care and effortless. When in fact of course, it's anything but and that's the genius of Top Gear's global success.

“I promise I will do everything I possibly can to respect what has gone on before and take the show forward."

Kim Shillinglaw, Controller, BBC Two and BBC Four, added: "I am so delighted that Chris will be presenting the next series of Top Gear. His knowledge of and passion for cars are well-known and combined with his sheer inventiveness and cheeky unpredictability he is the perfect choice to take our much-loved show into the future. Chris is a huge fan of Top Gear and has great respect for the craft and work ethic of one of the best production teams in the world. He knows the phenomenal attention to detail it takes to make a single sequence of Top Gear, let alone a whole series. He is already full of brilliant ideas and I can't wait for him to get started."

Production on the new series of Top Gear will start in the next few weeks and more information will be announced in due course.

Top Gear is made by BBC Productions.
