Just because he likes Jags doesn't mean he thinks they're the best cars, he has mentioned several times that he has enormous respect for German engineering. I think you're fighting against the 'character' Clarkson rather than the 'man' Clarkson, they are different people.

As I said before, he has his likes and dislikes, as do we all, I don't think for a second that all my favourite cars are the best in their class. If you have an interest in cars, you buy with your heart not your head, Clarkson likes British and Italian cars because of their, in his eyes, character and flair. The German engineering he respects, but find their cars rather soulless (with some exceptions). I can see what he means, though I don't agree with it because I don't share his love of stereotyping.

Old Top Gear was awful, so was new Top Gear when it started, they found 3 hosts who work well but who have sadly now become scripted cliches. Andy Wilman is the real genius at Top Gear.

Nonsense, Clarkson has a rep to live up to remember, you only have to look at the interviews around the time of Hammonds accident to see just how close the whole Top Gear family are.

Possibly some truth in it, but spoiled by the idea that Steve Wright, of all people, is an incisive and interested interviewer. I mean, he is to DJing what Tom Cruise is to weightlifting.
I gave up watching top gear every week after the pole challenge, never saw how they could possibly top that.
With Tom Cruise on this weekend i will definetley watch as a warm up to 9pm when the babe channels come on.
Not a bad sunday for a change, German GP,Top Gear and then some babes with their boobs out or more.Better that church
does look a good show on sunday, tom cruise, cameron diaz and lewis hamilton all on

Didn't know about Lewis!! Do you think he will take it seriously this time and beat HIS STIGNESS?!!
dont know. i do know he is appearing in a special feature on ayrton senna to mark what would have been ayrton senna's 50th birthday
Thought the Xmas specials were alright.

New series starts tomorrow night (23rd) Cool
After watching last night, my first thought was 'didn't this use to be funny'

Oh and stealing your beetle stunt from mythbusters, shame on you
Yeah, last night was a little disappointing but with the shit they get now from the press when they do something "wild" (i.e. what anyone with half a brain and some common sense finds funny) and then the constant fiddling with budgets at the BBC, I wasn't really surprised by the tame opening.

This is still one of the best shows on TV and even at it's worst I reckon it's got to be better than 80% of the shite stations transmit, lol
I'm a bit late to this thread, but what's new...

I think you'll find Clarkson is a decent actor. I was at Silverstone in 2007 for the Britcar 24 Hour race and they are definitely friends. If there were any issues between them a 24 hour race would have exposed it.

As for last night's episode...

A 911 Turbo, with the Traction Control switched off (light was on on the dash) on a loose surface won't be much use, hence the Beetle just beat him. It would be a totally different story on a sealed surface.

The Skoda Yeti?...a harmless bit of fun but the car has been around in some form for almost 6 years now. I was at the Brno Autosalon (Czech motor show) in 2005 when they displayed the concept car.

They often have filller episodes due to budget issues. No doubt there will be a "spectacular" soon enough.
