Quote:Andy Wilman, executive producer for Top Gear, said on Thursday: "Top Gear production purchased three cars for a forthcoming programme; to suggest that this car was either chosen for its number plate, or that an alternative number plate was substituted for the original is completely untrue."

It was all a terrible coincidence then. Of course.

...

Just reading about this, and I think it's safe to say this is a stretch and a half.
Apparently, a local councillor was commenting on the number plates of the other two cars. One included the numbers 269, which was 'close to' the total of britons killed in the war, 255. The other had the number 646, close to the 649 Argentinians killed.

Based on those kind of approximations, every car on the roads is a cloaked reference to something vaguely offensive to someone and should immediately be impounded and destroyed, and the driver publically executed Rolleyes
Is there a new series coming soon - free publicity by "accidentally" having a dodgy number plate. Top Gear used to be about cars now it's about 3 blokes acting like twats, still it sells loads around the world so why break a winning formula.
Have the mirror still got it as there front page was on paper review last night

Mind you news has changed since then
Free publicity for both sides. I'm sure the Argentines don't mind another excuse to complain about the "Malvinas".

just to correct you, before the argies put a contract out on you too..... it's 'las malvinas'. Tongue

i reckon that the producers, mainly andy wilman, who would have organised buying those cars should take the blame for once, Jezza, as big a buffoon he is, always seems to be the one to stand alone in front of the firing squad.... he didn't but the car, so not his fault for a change... just my opinion. Blush
