Surgeons:At the Edge of Life. BBC2
Think the BBC can't make factual programmes any more? Think again.
Contains some scenes which some viewers may find upsetting....I'm one of those viewers.
This week it was aorta and intestines at Addenbrooks and Papworth.
I think the whole thing is absolutely frightening and it puts me off going to hospital, seeing the doctor, doing anything that might be dangerous. Then there's the environment: Trying to repair the inside of the human body. Pieces of meat cut and sewn like clothes with tools and machinery, it looked a bit like my workshop, indeed one surgeon said he was a glorified plumber.
If you're someone waiting for some surgery, or the friends or relatives of same then I feel for you.
Why do I watch? The brilliant way it was presented, the honesty of the surgeons, the gentle commentary provided by Sean Dooley. And no adverts, I hope it doesn't get sold to the Freeview channels.
I would like to know how the patients (both survived by the way) felt seeing the programme.
