Britain's Most Fragile Treasure
BBC - 2011
Janina "Morticia" Ramirez is the presenter of this documentary about the East Window of York Minster during its ten year restoration which was completed in 2018.
At 78 feet high it is the largest stained glass window in Britain and was made in 1403-1408 which is described as the golden age of stained glass in England. The contract for the window still exists and shows that the artist was one John Thornton who was paid the princely sum of £50 for the job.
A large part of the window is the series of 81 panels illustrating the Book of Revelation, the apocalyptic narrative which is the last book of the Bible. In an era when most people were illiterate and Netflix still to achieve world domination, this would have been one way for the people to engage with bible stories - a sort of vitreous graphic novel.
The restoration team are shown in action and much of their work is correcting faults introduced in previous restorations. They are shown repainting, gluing broken pieces together, replacing missing panes and setting it all in a new lead framework which is less obtrusive than the one used in the last restoration in the 1940s.

How CNN's Chris Cuomo made a big fuss about leaving weeks of isolation, despite going out with his family on Easter Sunday. And how Nancy Pelosi showed her stockpile of ice creams whilst on James Corden's Late Late Show.
Killing Eve S3 Ep 2 - Some brilliant acting from Fiona Shaw, Jodie Comer looking tasty in a blue dress & a hell of a Barcelona apartment with Moorish architectural influences

Some walking, some boating, some flying-in-a-plane, some paddleboarding. Oh, and though there was less guff about Sandringham, he did visit an estate where some Lord went "ooh we don't want trains back round here".
2.6 Back to Scotland for the Edinburgh-Carlisle "Waverley" line. Partly reopened already, so Rob managed to take a train for part of the way. Most amazing was Stobs, where the station looked like it had been empty for 500 years never mind 50.
I'm not sure whether I expect a 3rd series, even accounting for the lockdown, but I hope they repeat the one from this series I missed sometime.
Becoming Matisse
How the French painter kept getting ridiculed by the critics and the press, how having a fraudster for a mother in law didn't help, and how when he changed his style, the critics and the press hated it even more.
