Good news.I just hope they cut back on the romantic/melodramatic elements or at least improve them, that's my only gripe with it.
They might cut back on the romance but knowing what CW do nope, all they need to do is stronger character development look at the flash there isn't a character in the that I don't like as there all strongly written and there more then just friends there family. A strong vilain will do the shows wonders, tighter stories there's loads they can borrow from the superman comics and lastly stop focusing that she's a girl if they can do that the show will improve in leaps and bounds.

IMO that's precisely what they should not do - one of the weakest elements in S1 was the repetition and cannibalisation of pre-existing plots.
There actually isn't anything wrong with taken pre existing plots as tv show do all the time The Flash is a great example of how it's done right, Ep 11 "Strange Visitor Another Planet" the stuff to do with Hank/Green Martian and the White Martian again some of it is taken from the Green Martian comics and JLA yet it works as Hank/Green Martian is be far aside from Supergirl the best thing in the show. Ep 14 "For The Girl Who Has Everything" is a Superman story from comics again it works and the added Hank/Green Martian elements work well where it doesn't is the other stuff around
Most people don't realise that Desthstroke in Arrow isn't anything to do with Arrow his actually a Teen Titian character and he was arguably the best vilain in season two, Supergirl shares a lot of the same villians that Superman does exactly like in the comics plus has a few of own.
You can use pre-existing plots but it's how it's written and execution. Ep 12 "Bizarro" the idea was from the Supergirl comics again the idea of it great but the end execution didn't deliver.
It's biggest problem is that CBS were trying to target the female audience who by the way didn't like the way they were shoving girl power down people's throats, poor character development but did fantastic work on the Hank/Green Martian reveal, poor villains who they keep chopping and changing it needed a big villain for season 1 similar to how Arrow did with season 2 with Deathstroke and Flash with Reverse Flash and now Zoom. The Villain needs to believeable, menacing and can carry out acts of utter evil you only have to look at Zoom in the flash to see how it's done. They need to tighten up the stories and cut the girl power/feminism shit and focus on her as a character that happens to be female. Black Widow in the marvel films is a perfect example of having a strong character with great development that happens to be to be female. Also CBS dumbed down the stories for there network which didn't help.

this evening on sky1 it's Supergirl v Supergirl as they are showing "Solitude" in which the main Villain is Indigo played by Laura Vandevoort who was Kara (supergirl) in smallville Smile
According to Actor David Harewood's tweet season 2 will have a 22 Ep run and of course will film now in Vancouver, this now will it easy to cross over with The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow all tho it is set in alternate earth lol.
it is moving from cbs to cw so it would make any crossover eps easier to follow if cw can get their scheduling right with supergirl, arrow, LoT and flash. that is why it is moving to Vancouver which where most cw shows are filmed.
It's moving to Vancouver simply because it's cheaper to film over there hence why all the CW shows are done over there along with over network shows, couple of the reasons why the show was so costly was because of the effects and filming in LA. Most tv shows these days are filmed in Canada because it's cheaper to film plus it can easily double looking like it's in the States. If they need to shots of certain location in the states they can just send a crew to do pick shot's.
CBS have said that would have considered renewing Supergirl if it hadn't have grown through with the CW network, its still a win for CBS as they co-own the CW network along with Warner Bros.
Supergirl keeps its Monday 8pm slot in the States, even bigger news that there's gonna big a cross over with Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow in December Smile.
