Good point about the Pay Per View market and Ofcom responsibility to protect revenue. Apart from occasional boxing matches and Sky box office I struggle to think of any PPV apart from adult content. The big argument against is that we are in a massive recession and revenue is down generally, BUT this is new techology, it should be growing. Thats grounds for complaint to the Dept Cult Media Sport also BIS.

Ofcom also has a pro-competition remit. It is suspected that channels that are subject to sustained complaints are targeted by competitors. It is not Ofcoms role to help companies gain market dominance, yet it seems to be a willing partner in this. Grounds for complaint to the BIS and the Media Select Committee.
Hi Eccles, i was thinking, do you think its worth trying to e mail certain government departments? Maybe trying to get some stronger points across? It's just a suggestionSmile
Sort of but Id suggest trying to get wider support first, either from an MP, a pressure group or a consumer group. A complaint from a body with 1000 members always gets taken more seriously than one from what might be seen as a lone obsessive, specially when it is an unfashionable issue. Bear with me on this, Im trying to drum up support for the petition, and there could be links to investigating Ofcom abuses.

PS Saw part of The Lovers Guide Guide Extended earlier, included lingering footage of a naked woman wanking her husband*, nothing left to the imagination. (*wedding ring clearly visible to make the content more acceptable).

Yep Eccles I guess you're right, it's better to go into battle, with more numbers behind you, rather than a few.
I tell you everybody the more I hear of the unjust regulations of f**king ofcom the more it inspires me and all of us to bring them down. I would love to be a fly on the wall to see how this place is run, and how they come to there stupid decisions. Well let's just hope more and more people sign the epetition, and the more signatures we get, the more our voices can be heard.Smile
The staff just do what there told. I suspect a lot are on short term contracts and wouldnt dare rock the boat even if they wanted. The Content Committee are also on 2 or 3 year contracts. If their face fits they get to join the full Ofcom Board. Or a renewal, or an extension. At the very least they get a glowing reference when they get back on the Quango merry go round and try for a different job. (This is all speculation of course).

They consist of a senior ex newspaperman (no broadcasting experience, and sod all serious content regulation experience), a university academic who spent his career in News (not Drama, so fewer taste and decency issues) before becoming senior management at Four and Five (OK, Ill concede that one), another journalist who became management (hmm, hard to tell), someone who produces digitial media for CBBC and is a parttime academic and Arts luvvie, a Scots solicitor who worked on BBC Radio 5 (pretty limited experience of taste and decency then), another sodding journalist, an Irish university lecturer and radio presenter, the former managing directory of Discovery Europe (hardly controversial drama, is it) and CEO of Flextech (current channels include Sky Living etc), someone who did Arts and Education at the BBC and C4 and an ex career civil servant who wrote the law creating Ofcom before spending 3 whole years at the BBC Trust (not a broadsater as such, more a regulator) (no program making experience).

Lots of ex journalists and university types, a solicitor and one ex civil servant. So whats it like being a fly on the wall? Simples, they reminice about days at Oxford and Broadasting House, whats on Radio 4 and do the crossword. They visit Theatre and watch Morse. They probably think Downton Abbey is crass. Its not clear if any of them have any significant experience of making general entertainment ordealing with taste and decency issues.
The Lovers Guide has just started on SKY Channel 275, oh yes more explicit than the 900 section which can be blocked very easily. So how does this workout then if this programme starts at 10:30PM and the models can't even get naked at this time on the babe channels, yet we can basically see a hardcore porno on channel 275 instead. Oh I get it yes, it's because it's educational, nothing like an educational wank now, is there. Ofcom fucking hypocrites.

Surely it can't be that easy, can it? Wink I would love to see them trying to get away with though.Smile
Did anybody read the Daily Mirror today and saw BAE defence systems cutting 3000 jobs because of the government defence cuts? And with all the cuts in the public and private sector to try and claw back the debt yea right,Yet it seems that Mr Cameron and Clegg are A OK with Ofcom spending millions of £s on wasted regulationannoyed
So the way its going, everybody will be out of a F**KING job, the UK and the global economy is bankrupt, you need a bank loan to fill your car up you can't afford a bloody mortgage, and yet the only people that will have a job is F**king Ofcom, because one of the most important things the government wants to make sure of is that we are taken care of on what we watch on our TV screensHuh
I would rather see 3000 job cuts at F**KING Ofcom and keep our British workforce in work. In the 21st century 2011 i still can't believe whats going on in front of my eyes.
9:00-10:00 Sky Arts 1 today, "Jeff Coons A Man of Trust" (contains adult themes). I havent seen it, but Jeff Coons is the artist who married Italian/Hungarian porn star Ilona Staller, better known as la Cicciolina and produced a sculpture of them having anal sex, as well as a giant ceramic puppy. No idea how rude the content is, but it would be difficult to discuss his work (I hesitate to call it Art) without covering the sex.
