There's a few players with a PL medal in that list, you jealous? Tongue
United have arguably carried more of an attacking threat with 10 men in the 2nd half than they did in the 1st half with 11. I think LVG got the tactics totally wrong-trying to dominate city at home with possession?

Clichy could've been yellow carded for holding Januzaj back and Zabaleta for fouling RVP but instead Smalling gets a yellow card for blocking Hart kicking it out quickly? No complaints about the second. Oh and Shaw is a disaster waiting to happen. Rafael, Jones, Evans and Rojo would be my ideal back four, just a case of getting them fit.
Rafael, Jones, Evans and Rojo would be my ideal back four, just a case of getting them fit - BIG IF?

Well Rojo will be out for a while and even then he hasn't impressed. Jones and Evans?! Even if they could stay fit for more than 2 games running they are both truly awful. Jones gets worse every time I see him and Evans always looks like he's making his debut. Smalling's two bookings show that he just doesn't think.

Of them all McNair looks the most promising and could even bring the ball out from the back unlike the rest vs City.

I think with injuries (Jones, Evans, Rojo) and suspensions (Smalling) LVG
will have to play Carrick and McNair vs Palace and that might be the best combo of a limited bunch until January where he has to buy. We cant spend £50 million on Falcao when we are such a shambles at the back. Hopefully we will spend it better than the £30m on Shaw!!!!
Considering these are his first few matches in the premier league, Rojo hasn't done that bad. He can bring the ball out, pass it, tall, strong and no slouch, its the odd mistake he's made in the last two games when trying to clear it which is something that can be stamped out.

Jones and Evans are the only other senior CBs United have got right now, and I can't see LVG getting anyone better in during the january transfer window. McNair is promising but he's still very young, maybe he can start and impress. Carrick can play at the back relatively well but I'd prefer to see him in midfield where he's more effective.

With Hernandez and Welbeck both leaving, we needed another striker, getting Falcao in was great business. The lack of goals last season was the problem, not the defence fragilities. Hence the transfers of players like Falco and Di Maria.
I know its a game of opinions but Rojo does not bring the ball out at all from CB and he gives ambulance passes to whichever midfielder has to trail back to take it off him. I don't expect CBs to be ball playing midfielders but teams sit off our CBs when they have the ball because they know they are incapable of bringing it out just a few yards, drawing the opposition out of their set formation and thus creating space in which to pass to. It's largely academic as that injury looks like putting Rojo out for a good while.

Falcao - great business? Massive 1 season loan fee for a player who cannot stay fit long enough to show that we'd be justified forking out the 50m at the end of the season. We may still get Hernandez back as he's a bit part player at Madrid and Wilson is well worth pushing forward sooner rather than later. Utd cannot keep throwing silly money around like they did this summer especially as top 4 is no certainty. Does the penalty in the Nike deal for non qualification not kick in straight away? Falcao is a luxury we cannot afford when we look like we need to score 3 against anyone to be sure of a win with our current bunch of defenders.

The likes of Jones, Evans and Smalling are not young prospects anymore. They're found wanting time after time when they manage to be fit enough to start a game. Also can't believe Rafael has got himself injured yet again in training!

The only reason we weren't as shambolic at the back under Moyes was because he set us up like his Everton teams with little attacking ambition and we weren't as exposed on the counter-attack.
There's a huge difference between being capable of bringing the ball out and doing it-he doesn't do it because under LVG United do not play that way, how many times has Blind taken the ball from de gea with the CB both splitting? If you watched him play for Sporting and Argentina you'd see he's more than capable with the ball.

He's missed three games, not half the season. Judge him at the end of the season. There is no Nike deal. If you mean the one with Adidas then no, if I remember correctly United have two seasons (excluding this one) to qualify for the CL. There are defensive fragilities but I don't consider it to be a massive problem, if it was we'd have lost badly to Chelsea and City.

If LVG set his team up like Moyes did and we played against City with 10 men, we'd have lost 6-0 or something Big Grin To say he set up the way he did with Everton is kinda disrespecting what he did there, his Everton team had a shape and discipline, his United team had neither.
I think we are a shambles at the moment but watch us go when everything gels together, but sending off for smalling please when did a block on a goalkeeper become a yellow card
once again the usless inept senseless Chris Appalling does what he does best - stupidity! surely now LVG will fuck him off if anyone would be daft enough to have him. It's not just a one off - everytime he plays he makes mistake after mistake. He should have been sent off against chelsea and given away a penalty with his attempted UFC takedown. Maybe Man United could appeal to the FA to extend Chris Appalling's suspension to one of 50 years like that swiss guy!

Thiago Silva received a yellow card in the World Cup for a block on the Colombian goalkeeper.
The yellow card for Smalling was correct, because Hart was trying to release the ball quickly and catch Man Utd on the break. Smalling was cynical and blocked him, just to allow Man Utd's defenders time to get back. Such cynical moves like that should always result in a yellow card.
